Getting Hired As An Installer For Best Buy & Circuit City

Currently looking for a job and will be finally turning 18 in march 4th. Well i want to work for an audio shop and im guessing best buy or circuit city is a good place. I was wondering if i need to be MECP certified to work in there? What do i need to know to work there and how can i get hired. Like everyone here, i am of course interested in car audio and would want to start doing it, but actually getting paid for it. What kind of advice can you guys give me?

I dont know about CC but i know that you dont need to be certified at best buy but if you are you will get paid more...as far as BB goes all you really need to know is basic electrical and audio stuff which isnt hard and wouldnt take to long to learn if you already know it...then once you get hired they pay for you to get certified

to be an installer at local BBY's you MUST be MECP Cert.

At Circuit City you do not have to be MECP certified. On ccroadshop there is a link where you can take the tests as "practice". Circuit City is train as you go... the more you know the better though.

You should atleast come in with your basic ohm's laws, and common sense

This is a completely FALSE statement. I just quit working there (because it was to boring!!!) and there were a few people there that were not MECP cert. If you are though however, which you should be able to pass the basic test with flying colors, no matter what experience you have...you get payed like 2 more bucks /hr.

best buy is boring though, you will do tons of satellite radios and remote starts...but mostly satellite radios and decks= about 80% of what you will see. I worked there 4 months and saw 2-3 sub amp installs. Even those are just the shit they sell....Type E's (cause nobody that shops there can afford type R's at 220 a pop for a 12) xplode...TONS OF DUAL AND INSIGNIA...YEA!!!!!!

Id say Circuit...they sell much better products. MUCHHH, especially if eclipse falls into their lineup....youll have a great hookup.

Ughh I've worked at two stores... with 10different installers and out of all of them two were MECP.

The training at ccity is an absolute joke.

They are wrong sooo many times, but its all about selling the product, which they do good.
