Getting back into the audio scene...and want to purchase an equalizer

First off I'm no stranger to car audio. Back in '92, '93, '94, 95, 96, 97....everyone had some sort of a system in their car. The sound of bass was inevitable.

In '96-'00 I had some awesome systems. Two 10 inch Cerwin Vegas fed by an Orion amp....two JL dual voice coil 10's fed by a Kenwood PS300M running 2 ohms per sub....one time I even had two JBL subs in a ported box powered by an Optimus 4 channel amp and it was so loud people inside the car (that were bassheads themselves) were screaming "man that's loud!!" Head units were Alpines, Kenwoods, Pioneers.....and one Jensen.

But eventually rolling down the street with my bass pounding got old and I sold off all my amps, subs, etc. I've been out of the car audio game for 8-9 years now.

But now I'm in a situation where I want good sound inside the car, and could really care less anymore if anyone on the outside hears it. Not like I used to be.

With that said I'm looking for a good EQ for my truck. Right now my truck just has a Pioneer DEH-P47 CD player (over sized DIN model for GM cars), two 4X6 Radio Shacks up front, two 4X10 Pioneers in the rear.

Yeah I know, not the best speakers.....but it sounds ok for now, and I'm not keeping the truck forever....it's just an old beater for now. In fact when I sell it, the radio comes out and the speakers can stay.

Alright.....I don't plan on running an amp, so I guess that limits me to a graphic EQ right? (because aren't passives the kind that need an amp??)

What kind of EQ should I buy?

I saw a 7 band Targa on ebay for $10 new. I have heard targas aren't good quality though.

Does anyone make a good quality EQ that doesn't require an amp to run?

Thanks!

Personally, I would buy a vintage 2-channel amp, if you don't want to spend a lot on this. An EQ isn't going to help much if you don't have any appreciable dynamic range, anyway. And having a small 2-channel around could be useful in the future, if you want to bi-amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have an old school Proton EQ BNIB ...it has the built in amp...full din...I also have an old school Kenwood BNIB with a built in amp....half DIN //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Those are both quality EQ's...stay away from the junk brands //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

What's BNIB stand for?

Also I was looking at under dash units...the two you mentioned are they in dash or under dash?

I know these two need amps to make them work, but how good are the Kenwood KGC-4042A and KGC-6042A eq's?
