I just bought 2 DEI Valet starters for me and my girl. Her 02 Honda Accord was installed, but my 03 Liberty has not been ins. yet. I am not liking the results so far. They claim 1000 ft of range, but I am having trouble at 400 feet in a parking lot. Parking lot is an office complex with some cars. I did have a direct view of her car. It took me 4 tries to get car to start at around 300-400 feet. (I did not measure but I played football for 10 years and 100 yards is 450 ft.. I know this distance). We tried again in a mall parking lot also at the 300-400 ft range and nothing til we got to about 150 ft.. The installer insists this is the same exact thing as the Viper but just under the Valet name. I am hesitant to put this in my car for the same shitty results. Plus the remote itself has poor design. Small buttons that are not raised so it hard to get a positive feel when you press it. LED is also a very dim yellow and hard to see.

Does anyone here have Valet 562T or another Valet model??? If so PLEASE contact me at mrhammer2u@optonline.net. I want to know your experience. If 200-300 ft is the best any starter can do in realistic conditions,....then I will just install it. He has the VIPER but will cost 100 more. But he claims I will ge the same product. Just paying for the name.

Thanks!!!

Rob

Goober,...thanks for your reply. I understand that DEI makes a quality product, but I am looking for a quality product with long range. DEI makes many high and low end. Seems like Valet stuff is entry level. You have any personal experience with a Valet 562T at long range??? I'm talking 400 ft.

Thanks!

where is the antenna mounted? high on the windshield? or under the dash somewhere? my dad has a dei valet and he loves it... don't know about range but it's still workin great for him

I did not measure but I played football for 10 years and 100 yards is 450 ft.. I know this distance
last time i checked 100 yards was 300 feet tho... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif lol jk

DEI claims up to 1/4 mile range (~1320') on their Responder/2-way series alarms/remote starts:

http://www.directed.com/security/viper/viper_responder.asp

Responder Systems from Viper are simply the most advanced 2-Way Security and Remote Start systems in the world! The interactive display on the Responder remote confirms all commands - virtually instantly - with easy to understand icons, plus text! It alerts users to security system triggers by beeping or vibrating when out of audible range of the siren. And of course the 791XV and 591XV will start your vehicle with the push of a button, and you'll get confirmation back that it started, from up to one-quarter mile away!
As far as their standard alarms/remote starts, I'd expect 100 yards (300') to be the very best.

I've got a Viper 791XV (Responder 2-way alarm/remote start) and I get at best 300 yards (150 yards of open parking lot + 150 yards inside a 1 story building) at work.

my experience with my transponder has been that it is pretty weather dependent. some days it works better than others, and also, if you have a pretty clear shot it works better. i have gotten mine to work from well over 1/4 mile before, and sometimes it has issues from right accross the parking lot...

I have a DEI Valet 554R. It has a normal remote, and a 2 way pager remote. It is by far the best remote start I have ever owned. Works perfectly, from far away.

One thing to look at is most remote starts have an 'extended range' antenna. If the antenna is on the drivers side of the windshield, it needs to be put on the passenger side. The wire for the antenna is supposed to be stretched out as far as it can be, so it's not 'bundled' up.

I do approx 8-10 remote starts a week. All of them DEI, whether Valet/Avital or Clifford/Viper. Ive had no complaints to date as far as range is concerned. Including my own cars.

Antenna placement does play an important roll, and as stated above the antenna wire should be stretched out, rather than bundled.

For the last three weeks I have done at least two a day. Sometimes 3-4. I have seen just about enough for several months. LOL. I would like to restate as said above, the antenna cable does make a difference, as does the car, and type of window tint. I have two responders (one of the new Ungo SR5000 and one Viper 791xv) The SR5000 is the same as valet's 554R. I have actually had better luck out of my Ungo, to be quite honest. I install viper 99% of the time at work, and never get any complaints on range. Install is key on any security product.
