Gettin' pissed with my ISP.

I hate the idiot techs they send out from my ISP. When I had DSL they had a major routing issue in a hub nearby. Under heavy traffic there DNS would just straight up die. I had pinpointed it to a time of day, and to which hub was dropping the packets, and they still refused to fix it. So I told them to F off, and switched to cable.

ive never seen a -5db splitter.
but when they are installed like that, they never work properly anyway
-5db splitter would be a balanced 3-way.

As for the modem, didn't they recall the 535s a few months ago? that's the flat RCA (Thompson) modem. Grey and white.

If I were the tech, I would compare those readings from the modem to the readings from my meter by running DOCSIS. Sometimes that modem is lying to you, especially if its going bad.

that would typically be a -5.5, -5.5, -5.5
Exactly.

Also if you look at the page he posted, his last reset was 16 hours ago. That modem is not holding its connection. There has to be something wrong in those lines. His numbers look good, but without knowing his configuration and the value of the tap, there is no way we can tell if his signal is clean. Especially that upstream.

By the looks of the numbers though, if everything is clean, I would assume he is on a 23v4p tap.

Exactly.

earlier we were talking about a -3, -5, -3

it was a splitter that was in an apartment I had to work on.(I do not work with/for anyone to do with this stuff....just //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif)

It most likely shouldn't have been there. They came up with some wierd electronics in the 60s that still seems to float around. I've never seen those personally.

if the speed is steadily slow then yes, changing the modem will most likely fix it, but its hard to tell without a tech being there while there is a problem
ive seen it where a nicked drop will cause this problem when its cold/wet outside.

replaced drop/ground block solved that problem.

im an installer though, so id just replace tap to modem if i had the time, running the dedicated line from either outside or the attic, depending on which was closer.

we dont get paid too much for service calls, but replacing those lines would pay a lot better
Installer ok, so you pretty much know your shit ,what company do you work for?

Exactly.

I actually reset the modem on accident. It came unplugged and the batteries died. The modem is/does hold it's signal.

It's starting to slow down quite a bit, so here it is starting out. It's not nearly as bad as it usually is, but it just turned 4:30.
