Get Rid of Stock Deadener

So im trying to take out the black gunk shit in my trunk honda calls deadener. When I got my cld tiles from Don @ SoundDeadenerShowdown he said to use mineral spirits and a putty knife to get it out. Problem is spraying it with mineral spirits is making it softer but not soft enough to where I can just scrape it off easy. I then just started smacking it with a hammer and thats helping alot to get it off in bigger pieces.

Should I just let it dry off the mineral spirits so it becomes hard again and itll break better with a hammer? Or is there a better way to get this crap off? Any shared experiences from getting stock deadener out of a civic is appreciated:*******:

hammer and charp chisel is what i've used. it's a PITA regardless.

Heat it up with a heat gun or hair dryer, that'll make it more pliable.

what about one of those oscillating tools that can cut wood but wont cut your hand they have a putty knive attachment,,im going to try one out on the factory deadener in my rex

Hmm not too sure what that is. Im sure I could google it though.

Heating it up dont sound like a bad idea.

And yea it was a pita just getting almost all of one piece out of 5. Lots more to go but ill try at it tomorrow or something

Just curious, why not leave it and lay your damplifier or whatever over top?

Cause layering it wont do any good. The cld tiles are only good if theyre directly touching the metal, or any other sound deadener for that matter

haha what a noob i am and dont even realize it half the time. Thanks i really didnt know that. I thought even though it may not do the same amount of work, layering would still help lessen the vibrations more and more. That will save me some money in the future.

What are cld tiles in comparison to deadener? A simple link to read of something like that is fine. Ill go search for it now.

I have a box of 100 razors. I shaved it off after it sat in the sun for a bit. wasnt too bad. then i sanded lightly

Im confused as to what you sat in the sun for a bit. The razors or your trunk?

yep just goggle it,,harbor freight has them for 39$ when they are on sale i think

lol the deadener. It was lining the bottom of the hatch and on the ****** hump. i took the carpet out and let the car sit outside for a while and shaved it off
