Get my HD3C15 today

Just an FYI, having the hatch open while playing it full tilt is a bad idea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
why is that?

and btw, what do you think of the noise issue im having? you think it might be related to the woofers orientation in the box near the port wall? maybe not enough room for the pole vent?

Unloads the sub. With the hatch closed that area back there is pressurized and helps keep the cone under control.
hmm. maybe i should crawl back over my rear seats and see if the sub makes the noise. i dont know maybe ill get my gf to do it, the closer you get to the hatch the louder it is. shit hurts my ear when i did that with my 15" magnum. this one is a good bit louder than that one lol

The Box recommended by DJ for my 12 inch hdc3 is 2.5 cubes at 35 or 36hz.

Your running 4 cubes at 33 hz you may wanna try a lil smaller box at 34 or 35 hz like maybe around 3.5 cubes. This is just a guess you may wanna ask DJ for specs for a 15 inch.

specs on the site are 4.5 @ 40hz. im sitting at 4.5 @ 33hz. seems my issue would be even worse when trying to play under tuning (especially with such a high tuning) like AQ says the HDC3 is designed to do.

Audioque subs have been designed to extract max performance from moderate box volumes. The 8" subs work in 1.0cuft, 10-inch subs work in 1.5cuft, 12-inch subs work in 2.5cuft, and 15-inch subs work in 4.5cuft. Use these box volumes in multiples to calculate larger usable box volumes.

Hmmm.... no out of box pics? Just wanna see it. Maybe see if you can free air it on low volumes and see what the noise is? But yea opening the trunk or hatch or whatever is bad for the sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Also isnt that tuned a lil low for it? i though the old hd's loved 40hz? I dunno. nice little update.
well the low tuning should actually give it more cone control where it sees the most play in my vehicle. thats whats kinda catching me off guard.

i only free aired it on a low volume just to make sure the sub functioned and there was no mechanical noise that might indicated a build quality problem.

i will probably end up free airing it again, and see what it does. i just hate taking the sub in and out, because the wood can only take so much before it starts to strip out. i need to buy some hurricane nuts and bolts.

Oh and btw maybe I missed it, what type of wood is that baffle made from?
the box is made of MDF, but the front baffle is birch. i had to buy the birch because i didnt want to buy a whole 4x8 sheet of mdf, so i picked up a scrap piece of birch (since they had no scrap mdf) from dixieline.

Wow I did not see that on box sizes. So maybe it is your tuning is just a bit lower then what that sub is looking for.

Another question, how much port area does that box have?
i stole the idea on the box from nG. he told me his btl liked 90^2 of port (i had a fully loaded 15" btl in this before which is why i built this box. this box was not designed for the HDC15 but rather the sub was just dropped in, to get a baseline). i would have to measure it out since i dont have my original design on paper, but i believe mine is around the 80^2 area. a little large, by most peoples standards.

I say take it down to the 50-60 sq. in. range, 3.5-4 cubes. Thats a lot of port area for a daily driver.

Or if you want to get fancy you could try 3 4" aeroports. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yea i was gonna scale the box down to 3.8-4 cubes @ 36hz ( i just cant bring myself to tune to 40hz even though AQ suggests it) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif. however i wasnt going to scale down the port area. that will be something i will try on this next box for sure. you know your DD subs, and considering the similarities between the HD series subs and some DD subs, i think i will take your advice. unfortunatly i cant really afford the aeros right now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

BTW audioque, you spelled Digital Desigsn instead of Designs on the return address lol. you should get a spell checker. i hope you didnt hire the same Chinese guys who built to the sub to make the shipping tags.

kskitka: as of right now, i am going to remain neutral on the sub as far as recommendations. i need to use it quite a bit more before i decide which way im gonna go. the noise is getting to me, but the rest of the sub is pretty much awesome. i have no other gripes about it.
