Get my HD3C15 today

Please keep in mind that the front baffle hasn't been mounted yet and we haven't done any sanding. The box is also a weird shape because it's made to fit in a tiny Corolla trunk. Because of the size, it's being constructed in pieces and will have to be finished inside the trunk. I will make a thread once it's finished.

****, didnt know people were gonna freak out about it lol.

lakota: no problem. as long as its not a negative comment against me (im not talkign about criticism, im just talking about unprovoked trash talking) i dont consider it dumping. any pictures, advice, opinions about the woofer is all good with me. thats crazy that ups managed to **** it up. i mean seriously. they have like a custom thick *** styrofoam insert to perfectly support the sub from every angle AND its doubled boxed. your UPS guy hates you lol

skip: im known as being the loser on every forum //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif. but yes, this is going in my explorer

audioholic: pics and video tomorrow

ok well, i dont have pictures (but my sub doesnt look any different than lakota's buddies). i wil say this though, this sub is a good bit more efficient than the previous btl i had, and its obvious, even with the super stiff suspension thats not broken in yet. a couple quick notes on the sub, the lowend is suprisingly not bad at all considering what i was expecting. its not a btl, and definitely not a 05xxx, but it can hold it own for sure. i was told by dj that the FS will drop from the current 38hz, anywhere from 8-10hz after breakin (if it follows what the original hd3 did, which he assumes it will), so im expecting the low end to improve even more.

i will also give some more info tomorrow when i get a chance to really listen to it, as well as seeing how it will react to something other than rap and reggae lol.

you guys gotta chill lol. i would of had the video today, but UPS says "we'll deliver sometime between 8am and 7pm" and i got it at 5pm.

I have not tested my hdc3 yet but I would have to assume a MT would get louder then the hdc3
if it was a wall application Id agree the MT would be louder than the original HD. connersdad is talking about the HDC's. In a street setup the original AQ HD and the re MT in terms of spl are very close. Go with the HDC's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif BTW, the original HD can take lots of power at least my 10's do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif:eek: I havnt had the extra funds to purchase the hdc's yet so I cant comment except Jermiah25 says there louder than the original HD and I trust him 100%. He hasnt steered me wrong yet.

ok. well i listened to it some more today, and im having some issues.

1) the woofer claims 3" usable throw. im assuming this mean, without bottoming out. well 3" = 76.2mm. cut it in half, and you get 38.1mm one way. my BTL was rated at 26mm of xmax. i cannot get this woofer to move nearly as far as my btl without introducing a not so pleasant mechanical noise. it almost sounds like a very light bottoming out (not the full on slapping sound). only thing i could compare it to would be like this:

SpinWheel1.jpg

but imagine it spinning at the speed of the excursion, if that makes any **** sense lol. i dont know whether its a loading issue with the enclosure or what. maybe the woofer just has a super tight gap, and its just the coil rubbing against the gap. i really dont know. im not completely familar with trying to diagnose subwoofer sounds lol. the btl has a similar sound, but it was much less noticeable. this noise is only really noticible when you pop the hatch and are looking at the sub from 2' away, but i can replicate it and hear it up front if i really push on it.

currently on even less gain on the kx2500.1, i can only turn it to 60/80 (depending on song, some i can go higher, around the 64 range) before i get the noise, while the btl would take it all the way up to 70 (where the gain is set for) and not really show any signs (mechanical noise would be there but very light).

although i cant move the sub nearly as much without it starting to sound bad, at the current level its on, it gets louder than the btl on the upper notes. in the current box, the btl was not very good at producing the upper freq's, it was a low end monster though. the hdc15's low end is not nearly as bad as people say. at least not in the 4.5^3ft @ 33hz its in right now. im honestly surprised with it considering its FS. im assuming it will pick up even more as it breaks in.

i will be building another box sometime soon with a different orientation. sub up, port back, as well as making the box deeper, to give more room for the motor and basket assembly. currently the motor is about 7" from the second port wall. that should be enough, but it never hurts to try something else.

heres some pics and videos. the sound that the woofer is making is inaudible in the videos and is covered up by my rattling panels, and bumper
suicide_anim.gif
. i will try to get a better video of the noise that it makes another time. btw, photobucket FUCKED the videos up. if anyone knows a place that can link videos like photobucket does, but NOT compress them as shittily as they do, please let me know so i can reup them.
