How audible is 3db to the ear? I was thinking about building a ported box for my sub or getting the RL-P. For temp I want to keep my MTX. I was just wondering how many dbeeeez would I get from building a ported box? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

alrighty.. but you didnt answer my question.
Also, I was wondering what the tuning was on this box.

found HERE.

No offense there man, but I didn't answer your question because it wasn't a very good question, no-one can predict (seriously) how many 'deebees' you'll gain by switching to ported. If my answer isn't good enough, you're expecting too much. A ported box isn't going to break your bank, so my advice is stop asking and start building, you'll know wether it was worth it to you really quick, and I'm betting it will be worth every penny. (Provided the box is built correctly)

can't figure the tuning for you right quick at work, so I'll leave that to someone else.

I'm not making a new post for this, but don't be a smartass if you're asking for help...

sorry, i will re-instate my question.

How much louder is 3db to the human ear? I wasn't asking if a ported box will output 3 more "dbeeeez". Eventhough thats what I said pretty much.

Will a ported box be noticabely louder. MTX reccomends those box specs and it says (in spanish) that it may have an increase in db. (3+db).

So I was wondering if it was worth to build a box.

That is all.

PS read the statement below "Vented Enclousure"

Fvck you man. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

So a 145db to a 148db has audible difference? Well duh no sh*t, but is it a night and day diff. Or really nothing.? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Thanks for the tuning btw... should I go lower?? I mean this is my first box and everything so I really dont understand what exactly the difference of a tune is. Is making the port wider effecting the tuning?

In other words, the bigger the port. The lower the tuning and Vice versa. Or is it the other way..

For example, the port width is 2". What if I switched that to 4". How low would that go?

At that lvl no it is not night and day. But it is noticeable. Your original question was coming from the PDF file. An increase from sealed is normally 3db "or greater"

So when changing from a sealed box's output to a ported box. It will be night and day. A very large difference. I doubt your sealed box is hitting 145db;)

Until you learn the art of speaker enclosure design I suggest you just build the one on the PDF file. I recommend a lower tuning, around 28-35hz. Depending on your music tastes.

Good sites to learn about ported enclosures.

Subjective vs. Objective Sound Levels

SPL is an objective measurement of sound pressure, or power in watts, and is independent of frequency. In 1933 Fletcher and Munson of Bell Labs did a study that showed that subjective sound levels varied significantly from the SPL level. That is, when two tones were played at the exactly the same SPL level, one sounded louder than the other. And the results were very dependent on how loud the tones were to begin with. This is illustrated by the set of Fletcher-Munson curves [102 Kb]. The vertical axis is the objective SPL sound level. Each of the curves in the graph represents a constant subjective sound level, which are in units called "phones." The lowest curve is the minimum audible level of sound. As noted above, the ear is most sensitive around 2-5 kHz. To be audible at this minimum level, a sound at 20Hz must be 80 dB (100 million times!) more powerful than a sound at 3 kHz.

Near the top, the curve at 100 phones is a fairly loud level. To sound equally loud at this level the sound at 20 Hz must be about 40 dB more powerful. This change in subjective level for different loudness levels means that music played softly will seem to be lacking in bass. For years pre-amps have come equipped with "loudness" controls to compensate for this. For me, part of "Hi-fidelity" means playing music at the same level it was originally played, so this is all academic - but interesting none the less.

Ha, I wasn't thinking that. I'm probably a 120-30 with windows up. I could be wrong. I'm guesstamating. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif
