General Installation/Configuration Help, please.

Heres the system:

Headunit: Kenwood DNX5120

Front: CTX65CS Components

Rear: Stock

Sub: 2x 12" MTX

Sub Amp: Xtreme X1800 Monoblock Amp (380RMS)

Component Amp: Lanzar Vibe 420 (4-Channel x100 RMS) I don't plan on bridging it for the front. 100RMS should be enough.

Problem: My headunit only has 2 preouts. Front and Rear/Sub. Would I use a splitter on the rear/sub to send a signal to both?

Don't think you can do that the HU is set to send either a rear speaker signal or a sub signal and seeing as how you have stock rear speakers amping them would prolly blow them anyway. IMO you're better off bridging your fronts and running the sub in back till you get a good HU to amp your rear fill.

if your going to put a splitter any where it should be on the front output and run front and rear off of one and the sub off the sub out,

^agreed, and use the rear channel gain to make the fronts louder than the rears

I just installed most of the components last night. I have the stock speakers still tied into the HU with all 4 preouts filled to cables run to the trunk. Only the Rear/Sub preouts are hooked up to the mono amp running the subs. Unfortunately, the HU has all of the Sub options grayed out. I think this is because its not sure whether it should be controlling the rear speakers which are still connected or the subs that are also connected via the preouts.

Once I connect the front preouts to the 4-channel amp, shouldn't it work exactly like the rear/sub preouts are right now with sound going to everything correctly?

Is it okay to run the ground from one amp to the ground on the other amp and then from that amp to the bolt mounted in the trunk?

you need to go into the menu on the hu to turn on the sub out.

each amp ground should go to chassis. the ground is the most important connection - it's how the amp gets its power.
