I have an 02 Taurus and the factory audio setup is around 4x4 watts. But honestly the stock cones arent horrible compared to many other vehicles Ive owned. I dont hear the higher frequencies or low bass as clear but midrange clarity is fair. I have some kenwood 5x25's and 6x9's that I considered installing but I have a hunch the stock cones would sound better on the 4 watts of power. I also have a spare 50x4 HU that I could use. My goal is just for more clarity hitting more of the overal frequency ranges but Im not going for professional quality here. I think the stock speaker sizes are 5x7 fronts and 6x9 rears trunk mounted. I cant add subs at all because I need every square inch of trunk space for my drum set. Im not sure how much low end 6x9's will provide being stuffed in the trunk cover location.
Ive never experimented with a large sedan like this so I dont know what to expect with new speakers. Before I waste money and time adding all these components Im wondering if anyone could give me some opinions on whether to replace the factory CD deck or if the kenwoods could sound fair on such low power (3-4 watts). Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
