General audio Q's

I have an 02 Taurus and the factory audio setup is around 4x4 watts. But honestly the stock cones arent horrible compared to many other vehicles Ive owned. I dont hear the higher frequencies or low bass as clear but midrange clarity is fair. I have some kenwood 5x25's and 6x9's that I considered installing but I have a hunch the stock cones would sound better on the 4 watts of power. I also have a spare 50x4 HU that I could use. My goal is just for more clarity hitting more of the overal frequency ranges but Im not going for professional quality here. I think the stock speaker sizes are 5x7 fronts and 6x9 rears trunk mounted. I cant add subs at all because I need every square inch of trunk space for my drum set. Im not sure how much low end 6x9's will provide being stuffed in the trunk cover location.

Ive never experimented with a large sedan like this so I dont know what to expect with new speakers. Before I waste money and time adding all these components Im wondering if anyone could give me some opinions on whether to replace the factory CD deck or if the kenwoods could sound fair on such low power (3-4 watts). Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

you could try 8's in an ib install in the back deck in place of the stock speakers.

i dont know about you but i can fit my drums without using the trunk.

Do you have a minivan or what? I have a Ford Taurus and my drum set is pretty big. Its a 7 piece kit with several extra stands and cymbals. Im lucky to fit it into a small SUV, let alone a sedan heh.

I never thought about putting 8's in the trunk but that would overpower the front door speakers bigtime, plus Id have to buy another amp. Im not trying to impress anyone with how much bass I have, just listen to it the way it sounds live I guess. I dont like having so much bass that you cant hear the rest of the music. In my Probe I have a single 12 in the hatch and I have to turn that down a lot just to hear the music becaue it hits so hard.

i have a mazda protege 5 hatch. but i have a 9 piece kit. i just break everything down. stands, pedals and seat go on bottom of back seat floor.2 toms go in the back seat and floor. snare, 1 tom and hats/cymbals in front seat and floor. and the kick goes in the right back seat. and thats that.

but def. put in the hu and new speakers and rock out.

Im actually a big mazda fan and have had a couple. I looked for a P5 for a year! Couldnt find one that the dealers didnt want a million dollars for so I gave up looking and just settled for something cheaper. I think Im going to start with speakers since those are going in regardless. If its tolerable I'll see how that sounds for a while then I'll throw the mp3 deck in after I get used to it that way I can hear the difference.

yeah after getting my mazda, i became a fan as well, there just fun to drive. my dad was a car dealer so i got to go to the auction and get it at dealer price luckly. ive been looking at the mazda6 hatch, but with gas lately i dont think its going to happen sadly.

why not just put the speakers and hu in at the same time? anything is going to be better than stock. and you can play mp3 cd's and connect i-pod and have rca outs for future amps if you want.

unless you have a stock rockford or infinite setup i dont see the why not put them both in.
