Every time someone mentions it I think of Larry The Cable Guy.

"I'm gonna have my stomach stapled"

"To what? The Country Kitchen Buffet Down There?"

Suggesting that you research or contact a licensed physician isnt useful information? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif Good day sir. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i think diet is wrong term. if she is only in her 20's and is somewhat mobile, you don't need surgery. what she needs is a life change not a diet. there is a calculator somewhere on the net that says how many calories you need to take in, to maintain your weight. what you need to do is stay under that amount. substitute high calorie food with low calorie foods. instead of greasy hamburgers, eat turkey burgers, if you drink pop switch to diet. all you have to do is excercise 30 minutes a day. ride a stationary bike and watch tv. most important is keep at it. the weight won't go away in a week. i changed my lifestyle back in may and since then, i have lost 50 lbs.

I know a few people who have done it, one was happy at first but now that she lost the weight she hates it for three reasons.

1st, everyone (including me) who hadnt seen her for a while (year) didnt recognize her. She was like 350ish, now shes down to like 130.

2. The excess skin... I didnt even ask any more questions about this one.

3. She cant eat anything now, I never got any specific details but nothing carbonated, certain types of food you cant eat, and the amounts are stupid small amounts, I think she said smaller then the size of her fist.

Shes stuck with it now though, wishes she just did it by diet and excersize.

Bottom line, unless your like 600+ and ready to blow, stop being lazy and start moving around. People will try anything BUT diet and excersize & wonder why they dont lose weight.

you guys obviously dont know what it is like to be over weight... my cousin is in high school right now, plays football, is on a specific diet for it. needless to say he works out 5-6 days a week and watches calorie intake, but somehow, he hasnt budged a single pound unless gaining weight.

for some people, especially those who have never built a metabolism while growing, its not as easy as diet and exercise to lose the weight.

i think the surgery is great, 2 aunts of mine had it, as well as my mom and me.

IMO its the best thing i have ever done for myself.

my health is 300% better now opposed to before surgery, and it has helped me to change my lifestyle into a healthy one.

ALSO, i didnt have a SINGLE complication since surgery.

(this is justins friend)

i agree. once you loose weight you'll wanna keep loosing more. it's hard loosing the first 20 lbs, but once you do, you'll want to loose more and be more active. i would rather have hanging skin then be overweight. i like having people not recognizing me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yes i do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

also by excercising i've built up more endurance and can out run people my size and have lowered my blood pressure. by getting your stomach shrunk you are just dropping fat and not building up your heart.

it is a last resort surgery... it isnt something that will happen overnight and it DOES take continued effort with diet and excersise. It is a long hard road for the person doing it but sometimes it is the ONLY option. I highly recomend (from personal experience) she see a psyciatrist and go to a support group. It is mentally more challenging than it is physically... getting out of current diet habits is VERY DIFFICULT.

the point of the surgery is for it to be used as a tool to change your lifestyle. a tool to help you while you are working out.

you cant just sit around and still lose all your weight unless your stomach has closed up even more after surgery, and that happens by not following post-op instructions.

ive done it, and so has 3 other people in my life.

the bottom line is, there is no consistent results after surgery, every single persons body and mind reacts different to it.

IMO it was WELL worth it, and i would do it all over again if i had to.

if you are that overweight, obviously there was something in your lifestyle that caused you to gain that weight. you need to fix that. all there is too it. for me it was pop and potato chips. i switched to diet pop, and baked chips, and started excercising regulary and i'm 50 lbs lighter. if you still are eating junk food after surgery, you will still get heart disease, but won't weigh as much

have her check into the lap band ...its adjustable and not permanent my aunt just did that 2 months ago.....
edit: link..... http://www.obesitylapbandsurgery.com/index.html
Very, Very interesting idea and I'll have to look into it

I'm 20 years old(just turned) and I'm 5'10 300lbs, not the biggest in the worl but I've got tons more weight than I'd like on me

And I have a problem with my thyroid, before someone flames me

Lckmyblls how much do you know about that lap band bro?

Going under the knife should be a last resort. She is only 20 yrs old and needs to get off her *** and commit to a lifestyle change, harsh but true. There is a TON of information on the web about proper diet and exercise. Nutrition is the number one thing she needs to worry about right now, you can work out all you want but if you don't eat the right foods at the right time then you aren't going to see any results. If you want to talk some more about nutrition just shoot me a PM

My mother in law recently had the surgery. She is 50+ so I doubt most of this will apply to a much younger person.

I didn't really think she needed it as she was only a little over 200 and had no real health complications. She tried to justify it for other reasons but, honestly, she did it to fit in and for cosmetic reasons.

She has lost a lot of weight in a short time. She looks very different now. Notice I didn't say better. The best I can describe it is "sucked in". She looks older than before she had the surgery. Certainly smaller.

She also can't drink anything while eating as her stomach is so small. Also, drinking flushes food quickly from her stomach and the docs want you getting all the nutrients you can from the little food you take in.

The point is it will come down to personal choice. It is very effective but comes with a lot of extra work and requires change that most people do not realize right off the bat.

I personally believe you should only get it as a absolute last resort. That is, if nothing works. NOT if something works (diet/exercise/lifestyle change) and you just don't do it.
