gas prices? interesting

???s = ~$1.33 ... My guess is that half of that is profit for the oil company.
People using gas [uSA]= 250 million

Average gas usage per year = 480 gallons

So lets say .73 profit per gallon. Each american pays 350.40 per year in profit to the oil companys.

So 87,600,000,000 in profit. Now to run the company, pay the employee's blah blah.

They make way to much.

fu(k....Its up to $2.49 for 87 now..just dropped $18 on under half a tank..and thats like average gas usage nowadays (low 20's city, mid 20's highway)

actually I know tons of ppl who work at Quik Trip and they said QT is only making $0.01 on each gallon of gas...so I doubt your 87,600,000,000 is right

its your job to vote in presidents and other govt. officials who are open to using other forms of energy besides oil. oil isnt the problem, its the fact that nobody looks elsewhere...and the people who do make no progress. thats what happens when the govt. is big business and big business is the govt.

Im not saying I dont buy gas myself, but I hardly ever drive, unless I absolutely have to. Im not too good to walk, ride a bike, or ride a moped.

we got 130000 fighting men over in In Iraq

why not just send over a few Texans get on some oil rigs

and drain some oil and ship it here for processing

like umm,whos gonna know..........

it is - whats wrong with a few boat loads of oil

for our efforts - it would not only give us oil,and lots of it

it would make companys like Exxon and Shell etc have to actually COMPETE

and lower prices due to the influx of cheap iraqi oil

is that not the american way?

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?s=BP&annual

I'm tired of all the guessing, here is a link to one of the largest publicly traded oil companies in the world (which is dwarfed by the Opec producers, especially Saudi Arabia oil). BP's Income state shows a Revenue of $285 Billion while profits are only $17 billion, which is a profit margin of ~ 6%. Their historical profit margin is between 4% - 6 %, which can be checked against industry competitors and the average (CVX 9.75%, XOM 7.9%, Industry 9%). I bet with recent rate hikes you'll see 2 to 3 points higher profit margins for this year but nothing close to what some of you guys are saying.

So placing the blame on corporations and the belief that Americans should pay less is hogwash. The gains in efficiency in production and refinery by companies such as BP and Chevron is what has kept the price of fuel so low until now. Also the argument about the U.S.'s oil supply being that great is B.S. Oil is not just measured in quantity but also in quality. We have a shit load of oil off the coast of FL but it isn't worth piss because of sulfur contents. The cost of extensive refining makes our oil more expensive than foreign oil for the most part. That’s why they refer to Middle East oil as "Sweet Crude" in that it doesn't contain high contents of impurities and is inexpensive to refine.

The price of gas has little to do with political influence but more so with simple market effects of supply and demand. A fixed supply or output of this resource exists in the long run; in the short run it is in the companies' output capacity that fixes supply. The demand is ever increasing with 2 Billion people looking to enter the market in India & China over the next 20 years. An oligopoly also exists in OPEC, so that the countries collude together to set pricing, which helps to help keep the balance between supply and demand.

Whether the the $87,600,000,000 figure is correct or not is irrelevant. He was speaking of the oil company, NOT the gas station.
