I am in an argument with a kid, who claims he was in a lightly modified ford escort (tires, shocks, exhaust) in which he was doing 106mph around a 200 meter radius turn, and experinced 9 g's. I tryed telling him thats a crock of ****, and that formula 1 is only doing 8, and a space shuttle is like 15. He also said sitting down is 10 g's. anyoenc are to add for the argument......

If he was on flat ground, no matter how fast he was going and how tight the turn is, he could never reach 1 G of lateral force. To even get close, he would have to have the best tires making contact with an ideal surface. He'd also have to have the best suspension...

To prove the point, have him drive the same turn on a large vertical brick wall. He should start by heading straight down and when he gets up to 106 mph, he should turn the wheel just enough to make the 200 m radius turn.

If he's right he'll make the turn and continue straight up. If you're right, you won't have to worry about him arguing with you anymore and you'll have a great story to submit for a Darwin Award!

Of course, if he lives, he'll blame it on losing control after blacking out from the 9 G turn...

Try this:

Have him get one of those fish scales and tie it to the mirror and then tie a 1 pound weight to it. If he can make a 9 G turn, the scale will turn horizontal and read 9 pounds...

what a dumn piece of shit.....if hes sitting and gettin 10g's then does it make sense to feel that same for while taking a turn at high speed??? fvckin retard is what he is.....it obviously a harder force when turnin at high speeds! how is sitting even comparable?

Im sure theres some air force pilots who would love to know how he remained conscious during this supposed 9g turn without the aid of a flight suit and in a car that will roll over if turned too sharply at 40mph.

For reference

A top fuel dragster that does 300 mph in the quarter mile, pulls 4g's of acceleration.

Most high dollar sports cars pull around 1g on a skid pad.

If he had a bad crash he could easily achieve 10g's though.

in a shifter kart on sticky tires we are getting around 3g's. once, i forgot which F1 driver it was, flipped and the thing recorded 21g's during the crash. he was ok though.

by the way, that is cornering force, not acceleration. i dont know what exceleration force is but i am sure it is close to .75 or 1 g's. going around a corner you can hold your neck up straight, even with a coller on. your head just lays over. then you have a sticff next for a few days along with bruised ribs.
