fuses?

hi guys. well im running 2 JL 500.1 amps. i have 4 guage on the battery and i fuse near it. should the fuse be a 100 amp ? my alternatoe puts out 85 if that matters. if not, what size is safe? i mean i want something thats gonna work when its supposta, not just the biggest size. also i have the 4 guage running to my trunk and split off into 2 - 8 guage short pieces running to my amps from a distribution box. now do i have to run another fuse on each piece of 8 guage wire when it comes out of the distribution block, and if so, what size? 50? 60? other? thx!!

The way I understand it is, add the fuses on your amps. if you have 2 amps both have 30amp fuses then use a 60 amp fuse at front. I usually add a bit to that. The only reason for that fuse to pop is a short in the main wire. I've never blown one in 16 years.

there is no NORM. Alll stereos are diff. If your crrent draw is 50amps max and you use a 200amp fuse, it just takes that much more to blow. The less amperage fuse the quiker it will blow and protect equipment. So, if your fuse on your amp is 30 then use a similar fuse up front. A 60amp fuse would be fine. I wouldn't go bigger though until you add more current draw on the power line.

AS for fusing the 8awg, I never do, but Im very careful in running lines. If you think that you will short the power wire near the amp then fuse it.
