hello people. as of right now, I believe that I am the angriest that I have been in a few years. I bought this home receiver

http://www.pyramidcaraudio.com/itempage.asp?model=PR530A

four of these speakers

http://www.klhaudio.com/ (go to products, current, then KLH 970A. i have 2 pairs)

and this sub

http://www.alpine-usa.com/ (products, subwoofers, type s, 1041. i actually have the 1040, but its pretty much the same)

that amp is RATED ON THE FRONT IN BROAD DAYLIGHT AS 400 WATTS TOTAL. IN THE MANUAL, IT SAYS 50x2. I AM IN ALGEBRA II IN HS AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT 50+50 = 400. WHAT THE HECK. I AM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET POWER TO THE SUB ALSO. I EVEN NEED A CROSSOVER OR SOMETHING OF THE SORT TO FILTER THE SOUND I THINK. THE BASS THAT COMES OUT OF THE KLH ONES WITH THE SUB WIRED IN IS TERRIBLE. NO BASS, LET ALONE ANY SOUND, COMES OUT OF THAT SUB. I AM LOOKING AT THIS AMP. WOULD THIS SOLVE THE PROBLEM? IF SO, CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO WIRE IT ALL TOGETHER? THANK YOU IF SO.

lol~ first of all, it's a pyramid. It prolly won't even produce 50w X 2.

400w PEAK, 50w is RMS. I guess if it's really 50 x2, then peak should have been rated at 200w. Guess you've been sent the wrong thing item.

Yes, you need a crossover for the subs. Tell you what you need, you need a plate amp for the sub. Throw away the pyramid and get a decent secondhand receiver on ebay.

For a home-use sub, the amp at the bottom that you've shown is intended for a sub. You usually can't get a sub to run very well wired straight to the reciever; not enough power. That is why all home-use subs are self-powered by their own amp.

You need an amp like the one shown (The plate amp; mounts on the sub enclosure) to power the sub on its own and run the other speakers thru the high power input/output jacks on that amp; it is equipped with a high pass filter so you won't need an external crossover.

You will still need a reciever--but not a pyramid reciever. Their stuff is horrible. You want quality home audio with a good price? Then look to Harmon/Kardon, Onkyo, or even Yamaha; plenty to choose from for about $250-350; good high-current amps. Even these guys low end stuff sounds good and most of their units have a low power sub out RCA jack (pre-filtered signal). Sometimes you can find good prices on some used units also.

Home audio does not go together quite like car audio does. Later.

Yup home subs are better left to be powered by their own amplifier. I'm about to get a new receiver (I have an old 1970's style) and It's 500w and a 5.1. It's a KLH R5100 for about $110 on ebay. Totatly worth it.

so i do need a new receiver. that pyramid pos is getting me no where fast. i think im gonna sell it at school. i was lookin at this onkyo that was about 200 bucks and this denon that was 300 bucks. both look real nice and can run a 4 ohm load. what would u all suggest?

Denon, Onkyo, Technics, Yamaha, KLH, Harmon Kardon are all great receivers and I've had some experience with all of those. IMO those are the greatest and best home audio receivers out there. Try to find something in your budget with something in those lines.

Look into a RCA reciever i got one from Radio Shack and the thing is great i paid like 200 bucks and it was well worth it. I got 4 full-range speakers running off of it with not external amp just the reciever and the neighbors can hear it when it is 3/4 of the way up. I do not live in an apartment the nearest house is 100 feet away.

yeah i was lookin at this onkyo one that can push 4ohms. i am also lookin at some 5.1 surround receivers. i would just need another speaker for the center.
