funny amp noises

my amp makes my sub sound like a gun when i turn the gain past 1/3, and when i bridge it, i can hardly turn the gain up at all without there being a constant "thump thump" like a fast bass beat at like full volume. wuts going on?

what sub/amp are you running?

legacy la1990 for the amp, and a volfenhag 12" sub. I should also mention that it only does this when trying to run only one sub for now off it, bridged, or on one channel. I used to just have each sub wired for a final 2ohm load on each channel, but now can't i just put one sub on one channel and have it work fine?
