full gain?

you guys probably think i left my gain full from the title and blew something but i am wondering who maxs their gains out and uses the bass knob as the gain controll so you can choose what sounds right for each song, or should i not do that.

usually i set the gain to its max before distorting/clipping on certain songs with the knob maxed out, but on other songs the bass will lack due to recording quality or some other variable and i feel as if the gain should be raised, but thats just me thinking.

any input from some of you guys would be appreciated if you do this or not, or if you think its a terrible idea

ha, i thought i had read a few on this board do this, i guess not and dreamed it. not like id max out the knob or anything but isnt the knob a variable controll for the gain?

i have plenty of power, i was asking about it so i could controll how it sounds for each particular song.

so no one worries i havnt done this yet was just a question i figured id ask before i attempted it

what i did was set my gain with a DMM to 1800 watts while my gain knob was set all the way up. this way i could mess with my gain knob and not go over my 1800 watts that i set the gain at the amp. im talking about the remote gain knob that you plug into the amp and can control from the front with the knob thing. my hifonics amp came with one.

ya thats how i have done it since ive been into car audio, but was wondering if it was worth it to try something different, guess not ha

better to ask tehn to blow up equipment

alright so your not talking about actually maxing out the gain on the amp it self but the remote like i was saying? if you do it like i did make sure you have it all the way up when you set the gain on the amp so you do not go above the level you set it at.
