ft^3 sealed XXX is .........

RE's website has that information. The actual volume tends to not matter a great deal as long as you're within reason. However, I would go anywhere from .8-2 cubic feet after displacement if you're going sealed.

Hopefully Dave will jump in and say something more intelligent and contradict me.

they recommend like .8 cubes but thas way too small. Even scott at RE admitted thats too small for a natural sound, and to get any sort of low end out of the sub. Go with 2-3 cubes. Even then it'll still be higher than .7 Qtc which is a good thing.

yeah, well i can fit 1 into 2.1 cubes or 2 into 2.1 cubes .... what you think will be my best bet? btw, I think im going with 2 SE'S OR 1 XXX (depending if i go 1 12 or 2)

I actually do want to port. I jsut want to know how these will sound sealed and stuff. Since its in my wrangler should I even go ported? Will it matter much? Also, 34 hz a good tuning? want very loud sq //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif from the 2 cubes. thanks ...

I got my XXX 12 sealed in a 1 cube box with a BX1500D with an alt that is going out. It is way louder than my 2 12 polk momo ported. Very clear and powerful for a single sealed 12 in the back of my s-10. I'm about to make a ported box and when I first heard it the sub was in a ported box and that stuff wanged. If you got about 2 cubes to work with that is just about the size of a ported box. It needs to be around 2.5 cubes at about 32 Hz I beleive.

thanks for the help. I'LL try and do 2.5 ft^3 @ 32-34hz . Ill even try sealed anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thats very close to what i have (pics in sounddomain page below).......i think mine is about 2.1 ft^3, if i remember correctly......and its tuned to 32.5 hz........either way you won't regret it!

Hey bud you won't be able to port that sub if you want any sort of SQ tuning frequency. You'll need like another 1.5 cubes just to slot port that thing and get it down to 30hz. If not you'll have to use a couple LONG 4" ports which will also require some space gross, and you'll just have to do a 90 degree elbow if you don't have alot of depth. Why only 2.1 cubes?

And in all honesty the impact/punch you get from sealed enclosures gives you the feeling its as loud in real life. on the mic you will see an increase in SPL but no impact/punch from a single 12 IMO. But low end is considerably increased ALTHOUGh you need to tune down low to get that low end. You can tune high and get impact but then your SQ goes down the toiley.
