Why are they 1.4 ohm?

why not? they were in a SPL van. The coils were chosen to max out a particular amp.

more than likely the 1.4ohm coils are so you can run 1 sub per amp @ .7ohm. no different i run d.7 so i can run .35ohm.

I would personally run a 1 ohm stable amp on this sub. after imp rise you'll be around 1ohm if not a little above
