Ok I will keep this quick... but driving me crazy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

My front right speakers have almost no sound! When I balance and fade the sound to the front right speaker I can barely hear the music quietly and when I turn it up loud it crackles and pops and sometimes comes through at full volume. I swapped the right/left RCA's on the AMP and the problem switched to the front left speaker... does that mean the problem is w/the amp or with the wiring? Is it possible the wires aren't good enough for the system? I had it all professionally installed... please help!

the gear:

I've got 4 Boston Z mid/tweeters and crossovers, they are connected to a fosgate power 1000 and I have another fosgate power taking care of the subs. I've also got a capacitor to handle the extra power and fans blowing onto the amps to make sure it isn't a heat issue.

The problem is not the amp, you eliminated that possibility wen you switched the RCA's and the problem moved to the other side. This leaves either the RCA cables or the HU as the culprit (or the connection at the HU, maybe it isn't plugged in all the way there).

Switch the connections at the HU end AND the amp end simultaneously. Of course this means you need to get behind the HU. If the problem swaps sides, then the problem is with the RCA cable. If not, the problem is the HU.

Well I had the whole setup checked out at the audio install place and they said it was the amp... perhaps they swapped different cables that led them to think it was the amp? Or maybe they don't want to honor their install w/some f'd up cables?

I doubt it's the amp if swapping the RCA's at the amp cause the other speaker to have the problem. It's either a bad RCA or the preout on one side of the HU is blown. You need to get behind the HU to find out. Try a different set of RCA's to be sure.

I'd say not the amp also.

It could also be your HU, or your RCA's, from your head unit to the amp.

Try this:

1) Connect just the right RCA from the HU to the right front on the amp (remove the other one and all other RCA's), which should crackle, pop.

2) Switch the connected RCA on the amp to the left front input on the amp (don't touch the head unit RCA's). If it starts crackling, than I'd say it's your amp. Problem found (but not likely).

If it doesn't stop crackling, try replacing your RCA cable and see if that does the trick.

If not then continue:

3) Repeat step one with the left output on your HU to the left output on the Amp. (this shouldn't be crackling per your described problem). Switch the RCA connected to the HU to the right out on the HU. If it starts to crackle, it's your head unit.
