front components amp 2 channel vs 4 channel

Do most people just buy a 2 channel amp to run there front components off of or do they buy a 4 channel and bridge it to 2 channels? Since most components are 4 ohm you would be using a 4 channel amps full power where with a 2 channel it would make more power at 2 ohms.

It's purely up to you, a 4ch is a better investment for future flexibility but a 2ch is often cheaper.

there aren't many 2 ohm comp sets. Most people do buy 2ch amps for their front comps but if you need 150+ @ 4 ohms you'll probably end up with a bridged 4 ch... the MBQ RAA series has some powerful 2 ch amps as well. I'd recommend 4 ch though since you have many more options for powering you front speakers and the flexibility to go active.

2ch if your putting more than 100-150watts rms up front.

4ch x 4 @ 100watts+ is hard to come by.

You could bridge 4ch's as has been said above.

4ch x 4 @ 100watts+ is hard to come by.

4 x 100w isn't hard to find at all. Most major manufacturer's make atleast one amplifier that will output 100w x 4 @ 4ohm.

Well IMHO I would rather run a 2ch amp to my front components if I don't ever plan to go active later on. One thing no one seemed to mention is that when you bridge an amp, you raise its THD% making it a little less accurate. In this case, a 2ch amp will be more tonally correct than a bridged 4ch amp.

I'd wager that in a blind A-B comparo you'd not be able to tell the difference between an amp operating at .08% THD from one operating at .8% THD.
