Friends Liking Audiobahn?!?!

Challenge them. Tell them you can find a single sub of the same size that will flat out destroy their audiobahn setup. Then go out and pick up an IA LI or a RE MT and build a box for SPL. Get the setup metered so they can see how bad audiobahn really is. Also, ask them how much they paid for the bling vs a sub of decent quality. Hell man, out in diego I'm sure you could find at least one person with a single sub setup that would work.
Would you put a RE RE 12" up against an Audiobahn Immortal 12"?

In Sq the SE would win, But im sure the imortal will probably get louder. The thing with audiobahn is that some of their subs do get quite loud, its just that they sound like ***. Audiobahns SQ makes Kicker look like Look like JL audio, or Focal in the SQ department
IMHO, Audiobahns Alum series (10 and 12Q) dont get the credit they deserve. They have very nice sq while being able to get loud. It concerns me when people give more effort into making one brand of sub sound better than another. Example, take someone who has a XXX, builds a box, sub sounds like crap. People will say, try this box, build another one , two, or three. Take another person that has maybe Audiobahn or Sony. They build a box, sounds like crap. People say those brands are crap, buy new subs. Thats not fair. Isnt part of this hobby trying to make something, no matter what it is sound the best we can (within reason of course)? Are we just selecting subs/brands that are more forgiving to our lack of install quality? People need to think about that.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/iagree.gif.15d6c075ee8d3913ba26866d06993068.gif a lot of people assume the worst when they hear the brand sony, audiobahn. Capable equipment. But it's the bad track recored that people listen to. I personaly know the build quality on their amps/subs are not worth the price they charge. Granted I only had Xp with one model of their amps and 2 models of the subs. But people just jump on the wagon to agree with everyone else.

But they still ****:p:

I've listened to a dual 12Q install (sealed, rec. alignment) before...and while it got decently loud, the SQ didn't impress me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I had the 12q awhile ago off the mmats 600w class d amp and it did pretty good. I was metered 144.3 off a old audiocontrol mic, so who really knows. It got loud and to my surprise it sounded good. But I had a custom box ported for it. I dont recall the specs as was built by a shop. Now I do things myself. You save so much more money when you do it yourself plus it seems to sound better.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

"A" single install shouldnt brand anything as being not impressive. Not to say that it didnt sound unimpressive, but one install is just that, one install.

Former owner of audiobahn Alum 12Q's (well i still own them but they reside in a closet). In fact the one in the box is the box that was in my truck. From experience they do infact get loud, but from hearing other sq drivers they just dont stack up. I think that audiobahn gets the credit that they diserve, there build quality is sub par (Actually some of the basket is plastic), and they are seriously lacking in the SQ department, and they charge way too much for their product. So all in all their are alot better options out there.

You do have a point there about the ugly dubling story. I remember helping a friend of mine take two L7s 8" to win a single amp street class (less than 800W) and later found the same setup to win an SQ competition as well. We all know that the squares do not produce very good SQ but still get loud. Now, every setup I've seen with Audiobahn (Qs not excluded) subs has been lacking severly in the sound quality area. You would think that it's not possible with squares considering you start with one strike against you, but with audiobahn subs they lack too much to even eek out the smallest amount of SQ when turned up. Think about it, how many awards have you seen gone to a setup with Audiobahn equipment? It's not like people haven't already tried.

My thoughts exactly, to the untrained ear audiobahns might sound nice, but once you hear a good woofer they sound like garbage. IMHO there is not a good audiobahn sub out there.
