friends DVC 12" L7 stinks

my friend got a used 06 12" L7 because i had one so hes runnin it off of a kicker 750.1. soo as we used it and stuff, it began to strait up stink. it smelled weird kinda. not like crap but just odd. what do you think?

lol its not being overpowered or anything. its a 4ohm dual voice coil wired to 2 on a 750.1 mono amp. wired according to kickers diagram.

seems you have all the answers...how do you KNOW its not clipping? you have an O-scope?

oh nope i dont. just doesnt sound like it is. i guess it could be to where i cant hear it? its in his 04 F-150 on stock alt and JVC head unit. runs 4 gauge wiring and monster RCAs. dont know what else but it smells weird for sure. performs great. lots of pounding but just kinda smells haha.

well if it's used it shouldn't smell. i mean some subs smell when they are new. must be either clipping or being overpowered. but with 750-900 watts it shouldn't be overpowered from what i've heard of L7's. so most would assume clipping.

I could smell the coil on my old 15" L7 after playing low notes or test tones for a while..I always assumed it was the coil heating up, so I just let it cool down before I banged on it some more..

Sub never died on me..

hmm. maybe thats it. we hit the bass stuff and it does it. mine on 1200 watts doesnt do it though.

my girlfriend just got the same subs and if you play a really low song for too long they will start to smell

i wouldnt do it for too long. maybe lower the tuning on the box if it does it on alot of songs you listen to
