friend lacks midbass - need help!

ahhh ur good squeak...you are //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it is an early 90s camaro....and we have already checked his big super car manual and we didnt see any metal cutouts already present...i guess we should rip off the door panels just to make sure?

cuz i agree...a good component set would definately be a step in the right direction if we just had somewhere to throw em....ill check with him and post back a little later...

if we do this, and figure out there is a cutout, where would be the best place to mount the tweeter? up in the dash, in place of the small speakers there? or elsewhere?

Double sided tape = your friend.
Play around and see what you like best.
i need a good friend...i was just curious if there was a way to mount it in the current 3.5" speaker location, since the cutout is already there

PS thanks for your help squeak //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You can try it.

But play around with it first, make sure there aren't any positions that are noticeably better.

By the way the 82-92 camero has 4x6 speakers in the front under the dash and 6x9 in the rear.

They have plenty of room to add kick pannels. Q logic makes some, if you buy them I suggest you fiberglass a few layers on the back side to add strenth.

In my camero i had the tweets mouted in the stock dash location, the kicks were not the q logic ones, but they worked well. I added a decent pair of 6x9s in the back. had much better mid-bass then the 4x6 speakers, but still lacked a bit. If you were to have a pair made I bet they would sound great.

Just my $.02

Would something like these foam baffles help with bass response in a stock door location?

What should I look for in the speaker to know if they'll help or not?

The speakers in question are Rockford Fosgate T162C's

Stick the speaker in them. Turn the stereo on and listen.

If it sounds worse, remove the baffles or cut a hole in the back and/or bottom of the baffles

Most speaker companies don't provide you enough information to look at the specs and tell if they would be a good or bad thing.

we did find the 6x9 spekaers in the rear walls and are considering throwing a nice 6 inch driver in its place, except for two things:

the location is not IB...there is space right below it where air can escape easily

second, the locationj in the rear, according to you fellas, is not acceptable for midbass drivers...soo so much for that plan...

seems as tho some kick panels would be the only way to roll huh....

ok we ripped the entire car apart to figure out how everything was wired together...

just for a test we reversed the polarity going to the subs and noticed a slight increase in the midbass regiion....the kickdrum sounded tighter, and had a better thud...which is what he ultimately wanted...since it sounded good the way we had it, we left it....my question: is there anything wrong with leaving the subs hooked up with the polarity reversed? since it sounds better like this, it tells me that the speakers have reversed polarity also...but instead of digging thru all the different wires to figure out which ones need to be reversed, i would rather leave the subs as they are...backwards....unless someone advises me against it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Doesn't matter one bit. Its a good practice to try reversing polarities on all your speakers to see what sounds best. There are very few rules in a crazy acoustical environment like a car.
