looks like u can unscrew the 2 screws holding it and it would pop right out

I took the plunge

I figured, I am stuck with this unit anyway.

I pulled the ribbon cable out, I was able to straighten the on housing with some needle nose.

The unit will power up now. And the face seems to work ok

But i must admit the display is nothing comapred to my XXV-01d

is the display on the X889 just smaller or is it less brilliant then the xxv-01d?

I am going to install it now.

mak , glad to hear you fixed the problem . is the dimmer hooked up ? Mine is pretty bright , unless the sun is shinning on it .

Not sure on the dimmer. I pulled a 10-year-old Kenwood out of my truck. The wiring harness is the same.

I did check the specks. The xxv01d in my car is like 4069 Color display versus the 64 on the X889 I think that is the difference.

Thats pretty weird about the contacts , I bet the old owner took the face off and when he tried to put it back on it was mis-aligned and bent the contacts .... Maybe thats why he was selling it ?

E-burn, what is one mans trash might be anothers treasure. Just shows again at how easy it is to dump a problem onto someone else. Had you not found the problem you would have taken it to a scammer. Personally I would still go after this guy as he is a scammer. He probably made no mention of this problem and "it worked just fine when I took it out" so "it must have happened in shipping" blah blah blah. The guy is a scammer and you caught him. At the very least, you paid for a broken item and were able to fix it. I would leave all sorts of negative feedback on this moron scammer skidball.

Well I hope I freaked him out when I sent him the Pics and was able to fix it.

I believe he knew the deck was dead.

about the display, yeah the displays on these units are quite weak compared to others. It's the one thing I dislike. Ok that and the fact that the accessing features can be a pain in the ***. press this twice to see that..press that to get there and this to get that. then press 5 times, spin around clap hands and now you are at the EQ section! yah!!
