I just powered up a Kenwood KDC x889 that I bought on E-bay.

The unit gets power but the face plate will not turn on the display or open to insert a CD. With the face plate off, the RED LED Flashes for theft deterent.

Sh_it I think the face plate is bad.

I sent e-mails to the seller. How long should I give him before I report this to Pay Pal?

I'd fiddle with it a bit more, I've seen HUs do weird things before, especially after a new install... I forget how to turn the HU on too... I had an 879 that was quirky till I figured out how to turn it on

Id go ahead and file with paypal then he'll probly let u send it back and give you a refund. And if u resolve it any other way you can just cancel the claim

Well shouldnt I give him a chance to reply to the e-mail and call me?

I hate to jump the gun on him.

And I did power everything on according to the instructions but NO MAS

dont be a scumbug because even if you cancel the claim the funds remain frozen for a while and you limit his activity which is a kick in the balls to a power seller on ebay. only scumbags file unearned claims on paypal.

Well look at the auction in the link. I doubt if he is a power seller.

If I dont hear from him by saturday, then I think I will got to the dispute thing on e-bay

From the initial standby mode where the display is completely blank but the theft-deterrent LED flashes with the faceplate off you'll need to press and release the source button to get it to activate the first time. Thanks I did press the SRC button. That should have activated it.

I was thinking about trying my XXV-01d face plate.

But at this point I am going to dispute the purchase with Pay PAL.

Unfortunately the Seller is not willing to stand behind the sale. He has pretty much told me I bought the HU as is.

But in the auction he claims the unit as working

Dude that sucks MEGA *** ! Are you SURE it is wired correctly ? I have had my 889 for about a year and a half with no issues so far . Maybe check the pins on the back of the face and see if they are damaged ? Is the face snapping into the HU all the way ?

Did he give you the security code ? There is a reset button on the face , might want to try that , but if the seller has activated it you will need the 4 digit number to turn the HU on .

The face appears to fit fine.

I dont believe that you can access the security features (I.E) on the unit untill the face responds.

And Vladipusss

Idont believe that my actions make me a scumbum or scumbag.

I waited to here from the seller on the HU before I went any further.

After all What would you do?

Well I found the problem

The Place on the HU that has the pins for the faceplate is bent in.

I can probably have a local shop fix it.

I don’t think I want to try to pull it out myself.
