ok i think im gonna build the bmtms...any reciever suggestions? so far iv found this technical pro one but it seems gimmicky...other than that i liked the yamaha 5.1 i had in my basement should i stick to yamaha?

For your freshman year (especially in a dorm), I don't suggest anything huge. Those drivers sound absolutely terrible. I strongly recommend that you do not use them, as I've had horrible results with most of the Hi-Vi line. The dayton alums are good, but you can get better. For the price of the HiVi, you can get a 7" Dayton RS which is probably the smoothest cone for the money. I've never come across anyone who hasn't liked them.

What are you planning on doing as far as the crossover goes? Are you going the pre-built route or are you going to be making your own? If the latter, being that you're new to DIY, I would just go with one of the projects already done at PartsExpress.com. I also say this because going the pre-built route will not give your project justice.

But maybe you're going active, which would be sweet. I don't know.

pre built...im thinkin ill go pre built now with the assumption that ill diy later...but with so much going on before i leave for school i dont think ill have the time to dive into something i know nothing about...plus i **** at soldering hahaa

How do you **** at soldering? Just keep this golden tip in mind: heat the connection, not the solder. Makes things so much easier.
