Frequency Response

I'm trying to understand what the frequency response spec on a sub is really telling me. I've looked at some subs with a FR of 20-500hz and some with 18-100.

It seems to me the 20-500hz sub would be able to hit higher notes louder and with more accuracy. But maybe the 18-100hz would be boomier. More suited to rap or techno. I listen to a lot of different music, but mostly fast power metal (Iced Earth, Symphony X, Hammerfall, etc) so I would think the wider range would be better, but I'm not totally sure.

Freq response numbers don't mean anything. Ignore them.
