Four 12" Guitar cabinet build log *Big Pics*

whats he covering it in? im thinking about building my own cab so this is pretty nice to see, do you have any other pics?
He's not sure yet. I think he's going with the standard stuff that a cab usually gets manufactured with. It's that thick and textured vinyl like shit. I would rather leave it ***** or stained but I don't think he's heading that direction.

It didn't look like we got very far but we had other things to do as well and we took like an hour to grab some food. We cut out the cleats and get them placed in the inside for the front and rear baffle. Some of the cleats didn't match up perfectly but they're good enough. We used pine for the inside cleats and it was too soft. We had some incidents with the screw not drawing the wood in so we had to use clamps which basically killed the progress for today.

Here are the updated pics:

Like I said, some cleats were perfect:

Others were not:

That's as far as we got today which doesn't seem like much for 4 hours but there was a ton of cutting and measuring for the cleats. We may work on it tomorrow or we may wait until next weekend. I did get some cuts done for another build and I'm resting a bit before going out and getting it glued together. There will be another thread for that.

Yea, tolex is what he was kind of wanting to cover it with. I think his main concern is the front grill cloth and he thinks it might look weird. It's his cabinet and whatever makes him happy. It will look great either way and should sound pretty awesome too!

I'm actually a little depressed as I might not get to work on it until next weekend. I have a blast working with this guy and he's smart as hell; I can learn a lot from him.

***UPDATE***

Well we got the front and rear baffles all cut out and ready. We also made the front bent cleats that will attach to the front baffle to allow it to attach to the cabinet. Those angled cleats were a *****.

We got the holes cut out and slightly rounded over. We had some issues trying to use a roto-zip instead of a router. He broke down and bought the correct bit and it went well. The roto-zip ****ed up one of the holes though but it's not that big of a deal and you can barely notice it.

Next comes rounding everything over with a little bit less than a .5" radius and then cutting out the holes for the handles. It should be completed by the end of the month if things go well.

Thank you.

Patience really is key. We're taking our time with this and trying our best to keep it as nice as possible. The roto-zip almost made Greg want to quit though and he was pretty pissed off. I made a jig for the router using some scrap masonite that turned out really nice. I meant to grab a picture of it but forgot. The masonite made an incredible platform for the jig -- much better than the MDF jigs I have made.

Why did you angle the side pieces, but not the front baffle to match?
Because that's not how Marshall designed the stack. Also, the front baffle is going to be removable and that would make it **** near impossible to remove if it were angled.

There will be a center cleat that will go between the top and bottom two speakers that will have the grill cloth attached to it. This will make the front panel look like it's angled, just like most of the cabinets you see. It's hard to understand how it's going to go together without taking apart a half stack (which is what we did).

Ahh ok, I see what your doing now.
