No you handled it correctly. They needed to be legally dealt with. It is unfortunate that you can't have the bike right away, but that is part of the process. It is evidence right now. At least you will be getting it back.Anyway, im riding at local spot today and see a guy on my old ATV. We're probably 30 miles from the nearest town or police and i have no idea who the guys are or where they are from. So i act like nothing is going on and take pics of the truck and guys with my cell as they are loading up to leave. I also have a buddy take some pics with his digital camera and we write down the tags of all the trucks in their group. We had no cell service where we were at so we couldnt call the cops at the time. So we get loaded and follow them out and as soon as we have service we call the State Police, tell them the road we are on and the story. Long story short, cops catch up to our little convoy at a gas station on the highway. They run the vin on the ATV and arrest the guy driving the truck and impound the truck and ATV. So now they say i'll get the bike back as soon as the case is settled in court!WTF? My question is: Should we have just handled it ourselves cause i would"ve had my bike right now? We had plenty of people in our group to deal with the four guys that had it. What would you have done?
Thats what the cop said, but he said it would be worth waiting because i could get the judge to make the guy pay for all the damage. The ignition was broken and the plastic had been ruffed up pretty bad. The rear grab bar was tweaked pretty hard from wheelies also.that court case could take MONTHS

x2 that way when he called the cops he would've been arrested and you'd have your bike right now....but now you can get all the extra stuff fixed that he fvcked up...something your couldn't have done if you took matters in your own hands...i do wonder if he can be charged something for the hours that he used it...like wear and tear on a vehicle or mileage depreciation...should have stolen it from him when he was at the gas station.then you could show it was yours when you got stopped
