Ford Ranger 6x8's - Suggestions?

hello all. i am trying to replace the factory speakers in my 1996 Ford Ranger, and need some advice. I have 6x8 speakers in the back, and also in the door. I am going to run an 8" bazooka tube, and want to replace the factory speakers. Nothing eloborate. just want something that sounds good on my commute to work. I just bought a new Pioneer Receiver - the 6000UB i believe - and the bazooka tube has an amp on it. I am considering the following replacement 6x8's:

• JBL GTO8627

• JBL P662

• Boston Acoustics SX85

• JL Audio TR570-CXi

• Kenwood KFC-P680C

• MB Quart DKE 168

any other speakers or suggestions from you pros out there would help me tremendously. I am not planning on having an amp - except for the one that is built in to the bazooka tube.

you don't have to get 6x8's to fit that... you can make a mount out of MDF and place a 6.5 speaker in the same mounting position...

am i a lot better off with the 6.5's? also, are you talking about the back speakers, or both the door panel AND the back speakers? thanks for the help. ac.

hell some 6.5 coaxials come with adapter brackets for 6x9, 6x8 etc...

boston sl80's. they sound great. i have a f150 and they are loud and clear

I suggest what most people said, have some one make you or if you could make some 6.5 adaptors out of MDF. Will get better response in those than the 6x8's IMO.

This is what I did for my Focus as my car calls for either 5x7's or 6x8's. Actually come to think of it, my set came with plastic adaptors to fit a 6.5" mid. Pretty nice if you ask me. Won't take much to get some made or find some for sale, or like I mentioned, do it yourself if you have tools.

I did get some 6x8's for the back as I don't care about how loud they get back there as its for the kids mostly. Oh yeah, they are the Pioneer TSD set. Will let you know if they sound good as I have yet to install them..

i cut out some masonite to make adapter rings for my ranger... whatever you use, make sure it's thin enough to give you enough clearance between the speaker and the door panel...
