mine took me a total of about 35 hours to do. that may be because its my first time ever doing it so i didnt really know the tricks but yeah suspect it to take much longer than what you expected. also dont rush and just take your time the first time and do it right so you dont have to do it again.
Thanks, yea wonder if I could get it all done in one big weekend, strip the truck friday after work and get it cleaned out then start bright an early saturday and just keep laying mat till its done. Hard to keep my daily driver hacked up for too long. I do have stripping the interior down pat though so that will help lol.
alright im going to be ordering everything else pretty soon but im just a little sketched out about the wiring. Is there like a guide or something for the amps and head unit so i dont **** anything up?
For all fiddling with power in your vehicle its recommended to disconnect the NEG terminal at the battery. Reconnecting it will be your absolute last step before you fire everything up.
What are you putting in for a HU. It is quite basic, just need to take your time and be meticulous. Also since you stripped everything and have a good base to start I would say venture on over to
DIYMA and look at some of their installs. Many of the members there are quite anal about wiring (due to competition rules) and have many pics of how their wires are run and secured to the vehicle.
For the HU just purchace a wiring harness adapter at Best buy, Curcuit City or wherever. Just ask them and they will be able to get it for ya. Should cost about $20-$30 or so. This will make it so you don' t need to hack the factory wiring. Just crimp the new harness together with the HU's harness. The wires should be a dead match color and stripe now, but if your leery the HU manual will have the labels for the wires and the new adapter harness will have each wire individually labeled on the wires sheething. there will be some wires that don't get used so don't get too worried if you have extra wires left over. If ya get into a bind don't worry we are here to help.
For the rest of the wiring RCA's and power/ground just gotta make sure you keep everything organized and such. I find using a sheet of paper helps out for keeping the RCA's straight, or some sort of marker (labeled masking tap, or color coding) to make sure each RCA end is going where you need it from the HU to the amps.
Guessing your running new speaker wire with all this work. If you are, this is another place where good labeling and organization works well. Either color coding with some colored tape, or stickie dots or whatever ya got on hand, or slapping some masking tape on it with a label.
With that set all that would be left would be to power up the amps. First get the turn on leads connected. Connect your grounds, try and keep the runs as short as possible and made solidly to bare metal. With everything all hooked up and double checked (grounds in the ground slot and not the 12v+ slot) you should be good to go, connect the power wire to the battery and to the amps, making sure its fused properly for the gauge of wire and length of run. Fuse should be within 18" of the battery terminal.
That should cover all of it, if ya got any more specific questions this is the place to ask em.
