While on the porcelain throne the other day, I was reading an article in one of my wifes Home & Garden magazines. Yes my wifes. The article said to save big bucks on your electric bill, set you computers to hibernate mode when not in use and unplug all electrical appliances that doesn't need to be plugged in constantly. Like hair dryers, my daughters curling irons, toaster, blender, can opener, you get the picture.

I thought this dingle berry doesn't know what the hell he is talking about. How much could unplugging appliances which aren't being used really make a difference. So my wife and I did a little experiement.

First we went outside to our meter to see what it was running to our everyday use and man that thing was on fire, I mean hauling a$$ spinning like a top. So then we unplugged everything I mentioned above, but NOT clocks, tv's, hone entertainment system, tivo or anything that needs to stay plugged in. We went back outside and looked //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif I mean$^%#!@ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif simply amazing. That meter was in slow mow, I kid you not. I am definately impressed.

Sorry so long winded, but if there is anyone on here tired of paying $350.00 to $500.00 light bills I thought they should be informed. I know I am appreciative for the dude in Home & Garden telling me. Later.......

My electric bill is only $100 and thats the a/c on 24/7 love living in an apartment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I dont see how unpluging un-used stuff would affect the bill at all. if its off, than it should not draw power.

my car stereo is all hooked up now, is it drawing power? will my car start tomorrow?

its called 'leaking electricity'. a cars equivalent would be called parasitic current draw

im not talking about the stereo keeping its data, like clock time, and radio memory, any idiot knows that draws power.

im talking about my amp being hooked up. is it drawing power while the car is off.

sorry it does not make sense to me. how does an inactive device drain power?

explain.

if you know so much explain how a device plugged in, but turned off, ie a toaster uses electricity. i would like to know honestly. just makes no sense to me.
I think the same way. Thats why I said; I actually looked at my meter BEFORE and AFTER unplugging all the aplliances because I was sceptical of it myself. And no matter what any article may say, I know my meter dropped atleast half the speed it was doing before, if not more. Thats proof enough for me, I seen it with my own eyes. If no one else cares about there bill then to each his own, I though I would just try to help a few people out.
