For those that went or graduated from college/university...

Haha Spider Monkey, you were helpful at first but now you're back to your trolling ways.
Thanks for the responses everyone. It is definitely a confidence booster when hearing other college grads say its worth it. I'm not too concerned about the money, my mom has been teaching for 26(?) years and makes about $55k w/ good benefits, this is at one of the lowest paying schools in CA I think. I could live on $40k + the property rent I will inherit eventually. But my concern is about supporting a family, guess I just have to find a woman who makes a decent income too. But, that's a long ways off.

Oh, I am working on a degree locally. I have been at 2 CC's and now I am at Boise State University. That's one reason why its taking so long, I haven't gotten all the classes I need when I need them, some credits didn't transfer and the switching of majors. Guess I will just go at my own pace and see where I go.

haha, I live in Ohio but have a friend that's just nuts about Boise state. They're playing us (Toledo Rockets) in football this year, however it's one of those games where it's not going to be so much of a game, more of a slaughter...

1. What degree do you have (BA, MS and what field)?

2. How long did it take for you to finish each degree?

3. Did you hate or love school?

4. Do you have a career in the same field as your degree?

5. Are you happy with your job and money made?

6. Did you feel like school was a waste of time?

1. BS Aerospace Engineering

2.4 years

3.hated, I didnt live on campus, I think thats why.

4.Sholl do, ask a few ppl on here they know me..

5.Hell yea, but family, student loans, bills, etc takes up most of it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

6.Nah, life is much better when you can get rid of the financial headache

1. BS in Aeronautical Engineering

2. 5 years due to poor planning on my part

3. It was okay. College life is cool but lots of work depending on your degree.

4. Pretty much, I do fatigue tracking for NAVAIR.

5. My job now is okay (especially for a first job out of college) and the money is good.

6. I started to think it was a waste of time when I got out of college and couldn't find a job right away. Once I got one in the field I studied I would say it was well worth the time and money.

College is an investment so it should be treated like one. If you aren't there to make more money or getting into a field you really love then you are wasting your time and money. You will just end up with a job you hate and tons of debt from having to pay off your loans.

Wow, a lot of engineers on this forum. Doesn't really surprise me though.

Yeah, I was there for BSU v. Toledo game. Nice to be part of a school that is a rising football power.

Dropped out in 9th grade. Got my HSED in corrections at 17

Went on to succeed anyway.

I am now a successful male whor3 and I pull down over 7k a month.

Going to go to school next year to obtain a degree in graphic design. Got to have a back up plan before my butt hole falls out!

Oh, I was talking about the upcoming game. They play at Toledo this year, I forgot they played Boise last year.

1. What degree do you have (BA, MS and what field)? Bachelors in Business Administration, Master's Information System

2. How long did it take for you to finish each degree? 4 1/2 years for BSA, 2 years for MIS

3. Did you hate or love school? I hated it at first, that's why I dropped out. Four years later I went back and got my first degree. Two years later I went back and started on my MIS, I have 2 classes left.

4. Do you have a career in the same field as your degree? My BSA is useless. I hope to get a job at IBM or ATK when I'm finished with my MIS

5. Are you happy with your job and money made? N/A Hopefully I will make decent money once I'm finished.

6. Did you feel like school was a waste of time? Yes and no. Some trades are worth a lot more than college degrees. Anymore you need a Master's degree or higher. It's only a waste if you cannot use it at all.

As far as a history degree, why not follow it up with a Master's in Education? If you get a Masters in Elementary education you should be able to teach middle and high school and with a Bachelors in history you can teach Social Studies at a grade school level and History at a high school level. No matter what, as a public school teacher you will not get paid what your worth (if your good) no matter where you go. I will tell you this though, to me money is not everything, you need to be happy with what you do.

There are truths in all of my posts.
The truths are in your trolling. I was implying to him that on top of his BA if he got a masters then he would have a better shot at a position at a higher level than just with the BA. I started into history at the associate level and all my history professors told me the same thing. But theres no telling you wrong, we all know that. And technically i did "drop out", but as i was going for business at that time, i got what i inevitably was going for anyways.

1. No college education, other than trade classes/courses.

2. Promoted to technician at my first job, age 16, $10.35/hr. (1997)

3. I hate formal education. The formal education system is set up to trick people into taking out student loans and chasing after degrees that, chances are, they will never use. Nearly everything I've learned in my adult life came from experience or resources (books, internet, mentors). I've had countless friends fall for the university and college loan scams. The scam is to keep you in school for as long as possible and to take as many courses as possible($$).

4. I own a business in the career field I chose out of high school (computer engineering) . I own a second business doing something I love, detailing cars and building custom cars/audio. One makes more than the other.

5. More than happy. Although running your own business can be stressful.

6. School was a total waste of time. In most of the college sponsored classes I've taken, I ended up teaching the class and the teacher a few things. In fact, one class I was even made an assistant to the "teacher".

Talk to retired university professors. They will tell you what a scam college and universities are. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
