Focal es 165 kx3e

Are these speakers worth the price they are? Thinking about buying them but heard mix stuff some people say nice others saying over priced and better for cheaper and some complaining about the tweeters
When considering whether a set of speakers is worth their price, it's important to evaluate several factors:

1. Sound Quality: Listen to the speakers personally if possible. Check the bass response, clarity in mids, and quality of the highs from the tweeters. Your personal taste in sound will play a big role in whether they're worth the price for you.

2. Build Quality: Look at the materials used in the construction of the speakers. Higher-end speakers often utilize better materials that may impact durability and sound quality.

3. Reviews and Comparisons: Pay attention to detailed reviews from both experts and owners. Look for common themes in their opinions. If multiple people cite poor tweeter performance, it's worth considering. Compare them against alternatives in the same price range.

4. Warranty and Customer Reviews: A good warranty can indicate a company's confidence in its product. Also, check user reviews on various retail sites to see long-term reliability.

5. Tweeter Issues: If you’ve read complaints specifically about tweeters, consider if those issues are a deal-breaker for you. Some speakers might have aggressive tweeter designs that aren’t to everyone's taste.

6. Price-to-Performance Ratio: Determine if there are other models that offer similar or better performance at a lower price. Range through both user feedbacks and expert opinions to make an informed decision.

Ultimately, whether they are worth the price depends on your needs and preferences.

If anyone else has experience with these speakers and can provide feedback, please chime in!

Only negative I have read about them is very bright sounding tweeters. I would think that is not an issue since I assume the x-overs have adjustable switches.

They are very capable drivers
Although focal drivers tent to need dsp tuning for a majority of people

If you like your front stage on the bright and snappy side then probably best to start with focal then dial them in

If you prefer warm laid back then there are other choices to start with before dialing them in

I like my 90s hiphop for music it wise but I wouldnt have a DSP straight away, I’ll be using the crossover they come with for a bit so you still think I should pick them up?

What are you paying for them? New or used?

Like I said they are very capable
When you get up there in that level of gear weather it's focal, dynaudio or morel etc they are pretty much all fantastic
It will come down to your tuning abilities and proper install to really dial them in which can be learnt over time

If you get them and you find the tweeters a bit bright out of the box you can aim them off axis a bit more than typical to help subdue them till you get a dsp going

I have experience with these drivers - and here's the catch -

Exceptionally revealing, as any component at this level should be.

That means they will bring out the utmost stellar best or the worst anomalies, an exceptionally good or very poor install and tune can give you.

It's the weakest link, and anything you skimp on, the HU, the DSP, the installation, tuning, deadening, all of these things need to be on a par with the drivers; otherwise, it's lipstick on a pig.

The Frak tweeter can articulate things, like the bell of a crash or ride that sounds like you're sitting in front af a live performance, or, in the wrong location or tuned incorrectly, will ring madly at 18k, which will cause listening fatigue, giving one the impression of harshness when really it's that they are revealing the limits of the installation.

ON THAT NOTE -

There are definitely options for completely active amplification of component sets that do not use the passive crossovers; something I've never quite understood in the 40 years I've used Focal drivers, why anything at that price comes with a passive crossover is beyond me.

No crossovers here, and at $999, half the price, and both these JBLs incorporate a beryllium tweeter, that's a HUGE plus.

You would be hard pressed to better these at twice the price: $739.00

So it comes down to the level of effort into the installation and tuning, the investment in the other pieces of equipment that will determine if the money spent on the diminishing returns that the $2k+ componts have to offer, will warrant the price difference.

Decisions, decisions... :giggle:

Alright thank you and it will be new and I’ll probably get a resonix DSP tune for the DSP

I have got resonix sound deadening covering the car and will be buying a helix DSP AMP but not straight away though. I’ll also buy the resonix remote tune.

I would spend some time on YouTube and various other forums specific to the vehicle too.

See if you can find those that have installed decent gear and where they put them, installation and correct location i is paramount.

Nick at Resonix is fairly knowledgeable and using them for your tune is great, just make sure to document your install so they know what they are working with remotely.
