FMOD, good or bad?

I was looking at these the other day and was wondering if they are worth using, JBLs don't have a subsonic filter built in and this looked like a cheap way to get around it when using a ported box. I dunno if I need a ported box because I am waiting on a eD 15A.22...or another question, port or not to port this sub.
