Floor deadening

I was contemplating removal of everything on the floor of my car including the carpet to lay sound deadening. A friend of mine mentioned that he got some spray that is applied like undercoating that worked pretty well. I am wondering how it compares to mat that is layed on the floor. Anyone use this stuff that can report?

I had a friend of mine apply SS Spectrum to the firewall, but the floor's much the same principle...said the stuff worked great although took a long time to dry completely.
