Fishing

Take a trip into bass pro shops . Look at some of the higher end daiwa and shimano reels . Check out the stella spinning reels . You will see exactly what I meen by fishing isn't cheap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

x2.

there is one about an hour north of me. but i do get the catalogs and some of the gear is way up there.

i just dont see spending that much money if youre just getting into it. like i suggested, you could get a rod/reel combo for cheap (reels arnt the greatest but the rods usually are) and if you feel you want bigger or better gear , you could always upgrade.

i loooove going into bass pro shops when im in the area. like mike said , i could spend hours in there even if im not buying anything.

lets not talk about the boat section.

its so hard to not climb in them. we have a marina right up the street so im just waiting till i find a deal in the bargain trader for one.

i climb in them every time.

I agree with people saying the ugly stick is a great rod. I have owned one for about 8 years now and that thing is indestructible not to mention they are extremely sensitive. I would suggest getting a lighter rod for doing some pan fishing and then a heavier rod for bass and such. I would try and stay away from a bait casting real until you have some experience with casting and such because you can run into some serious snags in the real if you dont know what your doing with them. Fishing is a great hobby to have because once you get past the initial investment of rod/real and some lures there really isnt that much other cost unless you are using live bait which isnt all the expensive anyway.

Any good brands I should look for.
Budget is around $100. Unless I need more.

Don't want to spend more than $250 to start off.

(Reason for two budgets is that I have very little idea how much this stuff costs, plus hidden costs [like the cost of wire in car audio]
I usually buy my stuff at Walmart, its pretty cheap there.

First off if you're looking to eat what you catch and not for the sport of it, nothing is worth eating freshwater other than catfish, walleye and panfish (bluegills, crappie, sunfish).

You best bet is a push button Zebco with a worm and bobber. Good Luck.

Total $$ spent 30 bucks. Start from there.

I disagree meinbeast. Bass is worth eating. May not be as good as catfish, but filet them and throw them on the grill..yum..

I'd suggest a medium sized spinning reel on a medium to small sized rod.. If you are going to bass fish, the first thing you need to do is find cover around where you are fishing. Tree stumps, lilly pads, logs, overhanging limbs, are all great spots to catch bass. And you can never go wrong with a properly rigged plastic worm as far as soft baits go. You will learn through trial and error how to run the worm. I'd also reccomend a Rattle Trap lure. All you do is cast them and reel them in, nothing else to it. And they catch plenty of bass.

But fishing with a nice fat nightcrawler under a bobber is as simple and easy as it gets. And great just to catch a catfish or bream to eat.

what exactly are you fishing inshore, ofshore, from a boat or land. My weekends usually consist of me waking up and going on my flats boat, filling up the live wells with bait and i just either work the mangroves or oyster bars fpr snook and reds, tarpon are pretty common here too along with trout but its mushy so i dont eat it. BTW fishing is a pretty expensive hobby unless you choose to go the cheap route.
