I am going to quit Lowe's at the end of the month, the PhD program isn't going to work out, so I am thinking of picking up a hobby.

Fishing seems pretty inexpensive, but I don't know much about it.

I got a map to find out where water is, and I assume large bodies of water have fish.

What is a good place to get started on learning how to fish and what to buy.

I perfer to use those plastic baits instead of real bait.

I don't really care what I catch, as long as it is edible.

What supplies do I need?

I would assume a rulebook of sorts, a fishing pole, reel, line, baits, measuring tape, knife.

What else?

I don't want to buy a boat or anything. I am not that interested. And I aim to eat the fish that I catch.

just get a cast net and look for snook along the shore line. very good eating and its easier than trying to catch them with pole. although it is a tad illeagle

you have to know what your doing with plastic baits....

just get some catfish bait. it smells like *** but youll prolly catch something.

I usually pop out a worm with a bobber and let it sit and then mess around with lure of some kind while I am waiting to get a bite.. Never had much luck with lures but with bait it is pretty hard not to catch anything most of the time.

Lowe's is my second job.

Although it's decent money, I am very burned out on it.

I would rather do something I enjoy than get paid to do something I hate. I missed most of my high school and college opportunities because I had a late night retail job. Although those times are past me, I am kind of young and want to go out and do things rather than driving between one job and another.
