Fishing today, and tips?

I'm taking my lil brother fresh water fishing today in one of the ponds on the Air Station here. They've got big bass, pan fish, and lots of catfish. He could care less what he cough, so i'm gonna set him up with a good old worm and bobber.

My question is, the water temps are still a little cold, around mid 60s, whats some good tips to catch bass in this time of season? Crank, topwater, worms, deep, shallow, or what? I've been twice in the last three days and haven't had a bite.

Any pros out there to offer some advice?

(Yes I have caught big bass, but it was summer and in a smaller pond...)

I am some what of an avid bass fisherman...If the water is in the low to mid 60's the bass could quite possibly be spawning..if this is the case ease around the bank and look for lighter spots on the bottum (the fan out the beds to expose rock before laying eggs) then toss a plastic lizard or tube bait in those spots and work VERY VERY slow...and if you get a bite hold on cuz its usually a big female..Good luck and you **** cuz your going fishing and i gotta work:crap:

Alright, sounds good. I was fishing from the bank, but I'm putting the boat in today, gonna troll the edges. Hoping for a biggie =)

i've had luck lately with live bait. minnows and crickets
How'd you rig them up?

little weight and bob. also around here fishing deep crappie are hitting minnows.
Thanks, might stop by the bait store and get something live, thats what i'm gonna put my brother on. I'll go for fun, he'll got for dinner //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

also remember the beer. fishing is so much better:laugh:

I thought it was illegal to fish without beer?? Here in Tennessee if somone see's you fishin without beer they will bring you one:fyi:
Lol thats awesome, but no beer for me. Under age. I'll have plenty of monsters though, and salt and vinegar chips! Checked the weather, gonna be in the mid to high 70s, clear skys, and low wind. Should be a good day no matter the catch //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Just remember this, if your cold the fish are cold too, and less active. If you are hot, like on a hot day, the fish are hot, and are more aggressive. In your situation, I would fish shallow areas with rocky or sandy bottoms. Use a worm to fish around vertical cover ie trees, stumps etc. and use a shallow running crank bait to fish horizontal cover. For the worm use an offset shank hook with a 1/16 to 1/8 oz sliding weight.I would use Berkley GULP or POWERBAIT tube worms. A texas rig in other words. With the cold weather fish it VERY SLOWLY. Most bites are going to occur as soon as you cast it and the bait is falling. watch that rod. other than that, a basic minnow and bobber will do the trick for your brother. most importantly, fish or no fish, just have fun!!!

this is one of the bass i caught and put in my fish tank.
