Fish Tank

I am planning on getting a chichlid(sp) soon to switch it up going to have a blast watching him eat the rest of them.
i used to have a tank that only had a tiger oscar(around 14 inches) in it, and whenever i added a new barb to my community tank, if there was some ******* that wouldn't leave the new fish alone, i'd feed the asshole to my oscar lol

Might want to use some bleach.... dont use any other soaps unless designed for fish tanks cause they all leave some behind. Bleach however if you cant smell it anymore is gone... Quite safe to use.
yes, what he said. plain bleach and water or you can use saltwater made with table salt.

x2. just fill it up outside just incase lol
i had a buddy that had a 100+ gallon tank, bought brand new from a fish store. brought it home, filled it up, about 10 minutes later one of the seals broke and 100 gallons of water ended up all over the basement.
I flooded my old duplex with my 150g tank. Lady next door thought her toilet broke.... If i didnt hate the woman i would of gone n cleaned her unit up too...

Yeah, your hate of her really should have been the reason to just make her suffer through your incompetence.

haha will do, yea our salt water aquarium is 200+ gallons so that would **** if it had a weak spot in the house.

and to the op get some south american discuss cichlid. they are some very colorful ones and they seem tamer then their south african cousins. i have a few south africans and have to feed them like 2-3 times a day just so they don't pick at the pleco anymore.

and i think i need an air pump now because they seem to stay at the top of the water a lot since i picked up some more.

She called hazmat on me cause i rinsed my truck off... Yes rinsed... with water only not even a brush or sponge... Just sprayed it with water. Ten minutes later my block was being blocked off by fire fighters in suits and they rushed me asking what the "toxic chemicals" were that i was pouring down the gutter was. My hate for her was just...

Your problems is over population, if cichlids are at the top of the tnak thats a big indication of death coming. You should have airation in any cichlid tank already. Try cutting back your population (turn a fish or two into the pet store for credit) and increasing the filtration. Test your water as well... sounds like you may have a few things going wrong.

A friend of mine, who's really into fish, he said that Salt Water is harder, but you can spot problems way before hand, so you have more of a time to fix them, while Fresh Water sometimes spawn problems and there's nothing you can really do.

My brother has a 55 gallon, and right now we have a bunch of Coral, 2 Clown, and 2 other different kind of fish... we just got an Urchin yesterday, it's bawler, as well as a few snails / conchs.

I don't really think it's "hard". It just takes some research. This is my brother's first tank and nothing's died yet... well, that's a lie. We had shrimp, but the clown fish killed them.

saltwater are usually a bit more indepth, in terms of research and maintence. If you plan on going with a freshwater tank and want several fishes in your 10/20 gallon, i would look into tetras, guppies, neons, zebra danios, barbs, etc. These fish are schooling fish, meaning they prefer to be in groups of 4 or more. Tiger barbs are well-known for nip-picking on the fins of other fish. As far as maintence, you'd need to learn about the nitrogen cycle first. Start off with an empty fish tank with detoxified ammonia(your piss is considered ammonia and works fine). Your filter, bio wheel prefered, will collect this ammonio from your tank and be fed to the bacteria in your bio-wheel. Once you've accumalted enough bacteria in your tank, nitrogen and nitrates are low, you can safely begin putting fish inside your tank. The key to freshwater tanks is to have enough bacteria in your filters, whether its bio wheel, canister, wet/dry sumps. Once you have that bacteria established in your filter media, then these can absorb the ammonia/nitrites coming from the "poop" of your fish and break these toxics into a lower form, known as nitrates. This is why they have freshwater test kits, to monitor your readings. As far as a heater goes, i think all aquariums are required to have a heater, even if your only carrying goldfish. The reason is to keep the tank at a stable temperature all the way through. Having no heater will cause fluctuations in temperature. Fluctuations at the slightest bit will cause stress to your fish, give diseases such as "ick" to your fish, etc.

dont get goldfish, the shit alot and you have to clean the tank more.try petsmart, they always have some neat fish.some look like little sharks.

heres ours...sorry large pic...
