I dont kno anythign about fish tanks... heard saltwater are harder than freshwater...

i want a small 10 to 20 gal fish tanks but need info on what i need or should have in order to have a decent one... and possiblty what kinda fish i can put in htere...

any help?

first you have to decide what you want, fresh or salt. salt water is harder and more expensive but once you get the hang of it, it's all good. i personally have freshwater. once you know what you want you then can get the proper stuff for the tank.

if you're going to get a 10 or 20, get the 20. more is better. you'll need a filter (aquaclear is great), go for flourescent lighting (regular bulbs will heat the water to much), depending on what fish you want you may need a heater, and get a air pump and air stones (they'll add oxygen to the water).

the question is what kind of fish do you want to have in it . but just starting out ide go with gold fish little easier to take care of and if they die the don't cost that much. as far as tank any thing glass dont go with plastic it will discolor after a while. and for filter ide go with the penguin biowheal and a penguin 550 air jet set 1-1 1/2 inches under water . but if you want some thing realy cool go with a 55 gal floor tank with like 4 koi fish in it all under lit with 2 2foot neon lights and transparent gravel

You need one of these.

if using a 20 gal he should only be using 2 goldfish tops, they need roughly 15 gal per fish so they can grow to the size they're supposed too. now i'm not saying you cant put more in the tank but they will suffer and cleaning will be a pain. they are very easy to take care of though.

not all goldfish are cheap.

holy moly 2 fish for a 20 gal tanks? i dont want huge fish..like small different types.. something maybe like a clown fish
barbs might be a good start for you then.

they're pretty hearty, there's plenty of different kinds of barbs and most of them stay pretty small.

and since this is your first fish tank, i'd avoid under-gravel filtration.
