Hi All. I recently bought a 2003 Grand AM GT and wanted to completely change out the ****** stereo system. As of now I have completely removed it from the dash and have been researching online to find the right parts to do the job correctly.

So from what I have picked out for it now:

Metra® 95-2001 - Pontiac Aztek 2001 Double DIN Stereo Dash Kit

Xscorpion® - Crimp Caps Pack

American International® GWH404 - Pontiac Grand Am 2001 Wiring Harness, Plugs Into Factory Harness

And finally the stereo (Nothing to fancy) :

Pyle® PLRRR18U - In-Dash AM/FM Radio with USB/SD Readers and Aux-Input for iPod, MP3 Players and Smartphones

I'm curious and that's why I've registered here, if these are all the entry level parts Ill need to change it out. Any input or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just added one to cart. And I'm looking in to that, but do you think everything so far will install and fit together seamlessly? Do most if not all head units come with their own cables that I can crimp to the wire harness for the Pontiac?

What's a smart cable do I need one or does the head unit come with one?
All you need is a dash kit and factory wiring harness. The radio will come with one of its own. But you need still need that aftermarket one for your car. Also when installing the radio you will need to connect wires I like to use black electrical tape and small orange wire nuts but that's just my preference. Many different ways but the dash kit should come with instructions and for the wiring harness it will say on the wires what they are and should also be color coded but probably not extract.

man you are not going to see any improvement with a pyle head unit. It will cause more problems then solving any. Are you planning on adding amps, switching any other car audio stuff?

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_60597_Pioneer-FH-X700BT.html This double din comes with the dash kit and wiring harness as long as you specify your vehicle. the quality is worlds better then the pyle, chances of it cr@pping out on you is minimal and sound quality is a lot better. Also has all modern features and has room to add a sub and a 2 channel amp for your front speakers.

you can go single din if you want cheaper. stick with pioneer, kenwood, alpine, jvc head units

pyle, power accoustik, boss, planet audio are all garbage.

You may not need a dash kit.

I know Scions do not require one unless you break something.

My alpine DD HU's slide right into factory bracket without need of their kits.

They bolt directly to metal vs the ABS kits that Metra sells.

I'd check how it's laid out inside before determining if you need one.
