First time ordering online... Question...

I've never ordered anything online before, but I will be in a few weeks. I already have an idea of what I'll probably get, so I decided to go through the checkout on SonicElectronix.com, to see what my total price would be. They showed me my total price, but I was surprised to see no tax added. Like I said, I've never bought anything oline before, so this may seem like a retarded question, but, do I not have to pay tax? or whats the deal here?

they can only charge tax if you live in the state of the warehouse or something so prolly if you live in cali or where ever its based they get you ontax i think thats how it works

right from the faqs on the site

"Q. Will I have to pay taxes on my order?

A. Orders shipped to California are charged 8.25% sales tax on the total amount before shipping. No tax is charged on orders shipped outside of California."

Probably after you actually go into the purchase stage and enter in your information it will add taxes according to your area.
Well I thought about that too, but it said I was in the last purchase stage and asked me for my credit card info. which is why I was wondering. It also says

"Total to be billed: $392.31"

I've never heard of that, but if that's how it works, then I'm fine... I don't even live the same Country, let alone state.

Anyways, thanks.

Definitely happy about that, I was expecting to pay over $450 after taxes. It's always nice when things come out cheaper than you expect.

Yes, that's standard. Order anything online (or over the phone I suppose), if you order from 'out of state' there is no sales tax included. Perfectly legal. When price shopping online (like for computer parts), always order from an out of state distributor, to avoid the tax. You are from Canada (I assume), so this doesn't really apply to you, just saying...

a lot of times if you get free shipping they'll charge you for tax.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
Not legally. A seller cannot arbitrarily decide whether or not to charge tax. Nor can they say they are charging tax, when they are actually just getting paid for shipping.

Wait a second, no tax for shipping outside of California to other states but he's in Canada. Aren't there other complications for orders being shipped to Canada? Thought some people had issues with that over eBay and such.

The OP probably will get hit with a customs fee.
Hmm, I didn't think of that. Around how much would you say that fee would end up being? Would they just take it from my credit card or would I have to pay it when the UPS guy gets here?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to make sure I understand all of this, and since I'll be using a pre-paid credit card (too young for a real one) I want to make sure I load it with enough money.

you pay it when they come to deliver or at the counter if you go to pickup.

ups always has customs fees. very annoying. its even more annoying when u have no choice but to order from the states.

on stuff around 500, custom fees from my experience with fedex are like 40 bucks canadian. but with ups about 70-90 dollars canadian.

fedex is better

Well, I'm sure I could find the stuff that I'm ordering somewhere here, but I know that even with the exchange rate, customs fees and shipping, I'll still be saving money.

Another question for you guys... I'd really rather ship through Fed-ex, but it only shows one option for my shipping, Ups ground. Is there any way that I can have it shipped Fed ex?
