First order crossover for subs?

Just wondering, who else uses 6dB/oct LPF slopes for their lows?

I was doing some more tuning with my system and found that low-passing my sub at 31.5Hz 6dB/oct works really well. For a long time I was using a LP of 63Hz or 80Hz at either 12 or 18dB/oct but with the new settings I have, there is less localization, more "up-front bass", and better low to mid transition.

The sub is a Pioneer Premier TS-W3001D4 Champion Series Pro in a 0.82CuFt sealed box powered by a RF T3002 Bridged @ 2 Ohms for 923 watts. Front stage = Pioneer TS-D720C comps + Alpine MRP-F250 Bridged 100watts x 2, 63Hz 12dB/oct HPF. The head unit is a Clarion DXZ785USB.

Honestly, with such a low xover point it sound to me as though you are in effect using the xover as more of an EQ and/or level adjustment than a true crossover.

If you need to cross it that low with a shallow slope, it sounds to me as though you either have a hump in the response that you're leveling out w/ the xover or you simply have the level of the sub mismatched with the rest of the system and the low xover point is leveling that out to where it should be.
