That's exactly what I did use. I think the mistake was more in the cheap Wal-Mart carpet.

how'd you do on splitting? i know the first build a lot of people attempt, they have trouble w. splitting the mdf.

Yeah it definitely doesn't look as good without the carpeting. I don't have any of those corner tools, just help from my dad holding it together while screwing it together.

I actually didn't have a problem with splitting, fortunately. I used Titebond II for glue and used screws as well, so it should be sturdy. I predrilled and countersunk for all the screws, which wasn't too bad at all.

Buy one of the break-off razors with the long blade. Extend the blade almost all the way out and slide it against the edge of the port while moving it up and down the whole time. This will give you a clean edge. Same thing for speaker cutouts.

Walmart has them for 99cents with three extra blades. Just swap the blade out on every box. Its got to be very sharp.
