First box build, SWEEEEET!!!

I started building my first box yesterday afternoon and am about halfway done. Need to attach the bottom, the top and also seal it up but I have a couple questions. And before anyone asks, I will post pictures when I get home (at work right now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif ).

Questions:

1. When putting sealer on all the joints, how do you deal with tight clearances in a port? My port is 2" wide, not quite large enough to get my hand down in there to seal it all. How do you deal with this kind of situation?

2. When putting the top on the box, how do you make sure it is sealed? I'm using titebond II, but if the top gets put on the box, won't glue possibly run down on the inside? How do you make sure that it is sealed up as well as the rest of the box?

wood glue changes creates a chemical bond between the wood instead of just a surface bond which helps in sealing. the glue running down the inside of the box will not hurt it in anyway.

To seal the inside of the box completely (minus the port) after you cut your baffle out put some silicone or something on your fingers and put it on all the joints of the box. boom instant sealage

But the way I understand it is you can't fit your hand down the port to seal the edges in the port, correct?

Next time, seal that BEFORE building the port. but yeah in this situation you might try getting a wooden dowel, putting some cloth or something around it, putting some silicon on that and try using the dowel get down into the port? Hope that works.

Well I haven't put it all together yet. I can put the outer section of the port on and seal it but when I put on the inner section, I will be left with the 2" to work with. I thought about using a stick/dowell or something and do what I can. Just want it to be smooth through the port.

not to thread jack, but i thought you werent supposed to use silicone with sealing a box. something with the chemicals in it eating away at the surrounds of the sub? is this true or a myth. I always use just some other type of caulk, or resin.

i have a pyramid sub (huge *** foam surround //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif ) that has been repaired with silicone and has been this way for about a year now with no problems.

The way I was told is . . . you should do your port separate, then it be the 2nd to last thing you do to your box ( It then the top). The way I did mine, I sealed the outer edges, and then when I put my port wall in, I sealed from inside the box rather than the port. If you did the wood glue right, though, you should have it sealed decent.

I use liquid nails myself.....tho the stuff is a fire hazzard...

As long as you do not throw the subs in there right away, it is ok. You are supposed to wait the 24 hours or whatever until the silicone dries up. so take yout time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
