I'll be starting a box for my solo baric L5s tomorrow in my trunk. I'll be posting pics as i go from pieces already cut to the complete box, its to big for me to paint or anything so i'll think of something creative later for the outside.

Basically had home depot cut my wood because i didnt want to be bothered with it, then bought DAP Silcone caulk, and Gorilla Glue(ouch its expensive).

I'll be posting more pictures as i assemble the monster. any comments would be greatly appreciated

I wouldn't use silicon caulk inside your enclosure. The fumes from the caulking will attack the surround of your speakers. All you need is wood glue and you're enclosure will fine. As for strength that is, the wood will break before the bond of the wood glue. If you're using silicone to "seal" your enclosure.. don't waste you're time. MDF (medium density fiberboard) is very porous. What that means for us in car audio is that we cannot have a truely sealed enclosure using mdf, without laying fiberglass resin to the interior of the enclosure.

My thoughts...if you caulk your box and wait a day or so to let all the fumes escape to put the sub into the box, you will be fine.

That's true, but what is the purpose of silicone in the enclosure?

you go along the joints incase u did bad job wit wood glue. It makes sure its air tight.... ALso the silicone wont eat your surround once its fully dried because it has no more fumes.

im not putting the subs in until late tomorrow and i didnt get to use the silicone after all as i forgot a cauling gun. The Gorilla Glue worked way better then i expected, and i would recommend it to anyone.



I have the top on now and its just drying, its 5.4 cubic feet volume ported to 32hz so im hoping i get more out of it then my lil 2.8 cube 46hz prefab box.

The puddles you can see in the box are my first experience with Gorilla Glue, i wasnt prepared for it to expand that much. but all for the better at least i know the thing is sealed nicely.

my bro wants me to build an in trunk ported box for his damn Type-R 15's and I'm going to use wood glue but he doesn't think it'll hold

Gorilla Glue drys fast and is really strong. I used a nail gun just to hold pieces tight while the glue was drying but the glue is holding it very well.

gorillia glue is a kind of wood glue,

those two glues are way stronger than the wood. tell your brother he is a ****ing idiot - sho him this thread, tell him to shut his mouth, and if he still thinks otherwise, tell him to build the **** box hisself.
