fireing direction

depends on the vehicle but i have played around with my single 12 in in my ext cab truck and i have found that facing it up is the best in my opinion

oh sry bout that! i ment specifically for an SUV but i'd like to hear opionions for others too.. i am in the process of desiging a sealed F glass box for 4 10's (personal install) and i so far am thinking i'm gunna put them in a horizontal row back-fireing... about flush with the top of the back seats so that you can't see the box through the front window...(back windows are 5%//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif ) yet i get enough space saved w/ the semi-vertical box to add in some monitors and other goodies, amps on the tailgate

It's 100% vehicle dependent. In my trunk car, firing back gave me the best all around sound. Firing forward boosted the 45-70hz region and it lacked anything below 40hz.

In my hatch, sub forward port to the side caused a lack of upper frequency extension and low frequency extension -- it was all around horrible. Sub back and port to the side was very similar to sub back port back. Sub up port back boosted the 40-50hz region and killed output around 30hz. This sounded very peaky and not good at all for my tastes. People who think most Young Jeezy songs drop low would love this setup as most of his songs are centered around 40hz.

Again, it really depends on the vehicle and the change in sound is VERY audible from my experiences.
